We are planning a ride leaving northern Wisconsin this summer, probably August and going to Niagara Falls, Ontario. We are planning on entering Canada at Sault Ste Marie driving mostly TC 17 and TC 69. Returning through Tobermory and the ferry. We are staying away from Toronto to the West.

Any ideas from anyone that has done this trip would be welcome. Also if you would like to join us you are welcome. We are into site seeing and poking along however :) :)

used that route coming and going to alaska last year, if you have time check out the town of WAWA just north of your crossing, really cool town, nice waterfalls, huge GOOSE,NICE LAKE, if you do stay at the PARKWAY MOTEL, clean as whistle, great people very nice rooms, tell the owner I said hello, they might remember the GUY HEADING TO FAIRBANKS!!! heading east the town of massey has a cool restaurant as you enter town food is first class, can miss it but its the only one there, food is great, if you overnight there the Massey motel is very good, provincial park there is very nice,,, in sudbury stay at the Hampton in, place is like new, negotiate the price they will work with you Hope that helps, road is good, driving at night not recommend due to MOOSE PROBLEMS!:pepper: Hope that helps a bit, enjoy the ride:pepper:

I've taken that route through Sault Ste. Marie. Nice route. I've headed west crossing at Sarnia and taking Ludington to Manatowoc ferry also. Loved that route too.
If you have never been there, you will love the falls. Very touristy, but in a fun way. If you can swing a falls view room, go for it. It's great looking out window and seeing them.
Parking isn't easy. Prepare to pay. Nice casino there (I usually will). There's also a nice ride up River Rd. from the falls.

Thanks Triker Bob and Bozo. We rode the Ultra last year around Lake Superior. Stopped in Wawa at Young's General Store. We circled going east in Canada. Stayed at a great motel and resturant east of Marathon about 10 miles called Gloria's Motel. No one there knew who Gloria was, they though it might have been the guy who built it, many years ago, girl friend :) :) We also visited Kakabecka Falls west of Thunder Bay, a great site and a amethyst mine that was about 12 miles up a gravel road that kept getting narrower as we traveled up it. This was one of the side trips that my wife decided we should look into a Trike :) :) She did not like the gravel on the Ultra. I thought it was sorta fun, reminded me of the dirt track racing days, :)

We made a trip from western Wyoming to Niagara Falls, ON a couple of years ago. One of the highlights of the trip for me was our stay at the Big Tub Harbour Resort in Tobermory. Clean comfortable room and great food and beer at the pub on the property. A must place to stay if you are passing through Tobermory. If you want more ideas let me know.

We are planning to stay overnight at Tobermory. If you stayed there you must have ridden the ferry? We are planning to come from the north and ride the ferry. Have not checked to see if reservations are needed on the ferry??

We did take the fairy from Tobermory to Manitoulin Island. We did not have reservations. If I remember right they suggest you get min line about a half an hour before departure time. In our experience they movemotorcycles to the front of the line and load them first. The web address below has the fares and schedule for the fairy.
