Good Morning All...

For those of you that have the adjustable backrest from HD, how flat does it fold down? I am going to order one but concerned that it will be a problem for my bride as she sometimes has problems clearing my seat with her foot when getting on the trike. Is the backrest pad easily detachable as that may be the best solution?

Been having a problem with pain between my shoulders so I installed a set of Khrome Werks 2+2 narrow sweepers but still not as good as I would like for long hauls...

Thanks for your responses...

Cheers

It folds down to just a few degrees above horizontal. Not all the way down to the driver's seat, but plenty far enough for the back seat rider to get on and off. My wife loves it for getting onto her back seat throne. She also has problems getting her foot across. Her method now is to step on the driver's footboard, step up to the passenger footboard while facing forward, and to swing her foot across the driver's seat while pushing down the backrest. She only pushes it down to about a 45 degree angle. She can get on faster than I can.
Taking the pad off is a lot harder than her just laying it down. The release lever is down in the slot between the seats.

this particular back rest works really great for me and my wife. also you might want to consider a Bone Mountain back rest gadget bag for her. it slips over the back rest. go to www.bonemountain.com it's better than the HD product IMO. the wife uses it on every ride.

Backrest

I agree with previous riders - but have NO problem removing the backrest AT ANY TIME.
Love the unit but my minor complaint is the slight amount of slop/wiggle play with it in the upright position - wonder if this is common/adjustable backrest? Maybe it's purpose is to 'conform' to the indivual drivers back?
Mustang Seats

Take a look at the one from Mustang Seats. It does fold forward flat ! It is easy to remove too if need be. The pad tilts as does the vertical post it is mounted to. Mine has made the move from several H-D touring bikes much to the dismay of the dealer that thought it was staying with the trade in. Not !:D

Thanks for all the feedback - pretty sure that I will be ordering the HD unit.
Curious about the Mustang unit mentioned here as I checked on their site and they specifically state that the model M-79610 (only one I could find) doesn't fit the TG... Did you have to modify anything?
Bolted right in place. They have evidently hired some of the fools that put the H-D p&a catalog together based on the misinformation.

They also will tell you that the 76033 won't fit. Wrong on all counts. It drops right in place. :D I've put just under 10K on mine since I bought the trike in May.

Thanks to all for your input. I have the HD adjustable backrest on order and should be picking it up early next week. Heading out to Yellowstone in Sep so should be a great addition for the trip
