Today I had the opportunity to do an oil change on the rear end of my trike. I have a 2007 that was converted to a Viper in 2016. I read the owners manual (off to a good start...) and saw that I would need a total of 38oz of 80W90 GL5 conventional gear oil. So off to the local auto parts place and picked up 2 qts of Castrol conventional gear oil. According to the manual, the rear differential was to get 32oz (so 1 qt ) and the gear case gets 6 oz. I found the fill and drain plug for the rear differential. I also knew that some had problems with the drain bolt not being centered and hard to remove. I got lucky and the drain bolt was right in the middle and a breeze to get to. I finished draining that, put drain bolt back in and filled that with the first bottle.

So now I start trying to find the gear case fill and drain holes. They are not there! As a matter of fact, it appears that I don't even have a gear case??? The drive shaft is connected right up to the rear differential. Am I going crazy or is this just another error I have discovered in the owners manual?

The gear case was used roughly 05-10 someone with better knowledge can correct me but thats close. They were the ones that hear about driveshaft issues and the final fix was to remove the gear case and replace the driveshaft with one that went from engine to diff.

Aha! Well that explains it. Thank you!
