Old Newbie

Have always ridden 2 wheelers,but at a gimpy almost 60 I'm thinking about 3 wheels. Thought this would be a good group to talk with.

Well I have a 79 Sporter in the shed that hasn't been ridden in quite a while. Thought I might try to do something with it. Anyone have any ideas?

You might want to try Frankenstein out of Arizona, they seem to have a pretty nice conversion for a Harley, I think it is under 5000.00 and you can install it yourself from what I have read, but not for sure, check it out?

Check here on the site. There are a few sportsters that have been converted. The Frankenstein is not a full body kit. ThenSporster is a little underpowered to run a large trike body. People have been doing the Frankenstein conversion to keep it light. Also putting $8,500 + into that old of a Sportster would have it way out of its selling $ .

Welcome from the U.P of Michigan and even tho I am a Gold Wing fan I have known several people with sportsters and without putting a trike kit on them people complain about being underpoweded. Even if you used the slip on kits that are a lot lighter and less expensive, you still need more power,espically if you want to ride two up. As far as your age, that is no big deal,it is all in how you feel. If you can ride safely, then great. Enjoy.

I think the old engine has plenty of power. I need to weigh my options though. The reason I'm thinking three wheels is because my wear is starting to show. If I get a bike down, it's gonna stay down until help shows up.

Welcome to TT. There is a mountain of knowledge out here to be had. Just have to learn how to extract it. My take on your situation is. 1) Maybe you should add a kit to it first. Just to try it.(cheapest alternative) 2)Frankenstein it. (most expensive) you'll never get dime back on your investment. 3)Let an "old dog" AMF lie. 4)Sell your bike and use the money for a downstroke on something newer. Buy used and you can always move up or sell for a minimal loss. 5) It's never easy to take that first original step for fear of failure. I speak from experience here. I don't have the fear, just the failure. lol I know I didn't answer any questions, but hopefully you can look at it from a different point of view.

Yea, I'm seeing that their are a lot of options. I sure appreciate all the feedback from everyone. I just had shoulder rotator cuff surgery so I've got some time to research. Heck I may just start from scratch and build something. Thanks again everyone.
