Checking old Shiney out for winter to see exactly where my oil leak was occurring. Now when I replaced the clutch cable I did not use Teflon tape on cable threads admitted but was that necessary? My oil leak seems to be coming from the cable I must have damaged the O ring at the install... and you know these things come apart from the mufflers forward. Is it common for the O ring to go bad? I have added no motor oil so I know it is not that. :( No loose oil pan fasteners all clean and dry. I did add transmission oil I'm running Amsoil tranny lube. shifts great neutral is good to get too, added less than a half a pint this summer late to the trans. Anyone have a way to make sure you don't damage the O ring at installation. not exactly what I had in mind. :Coffee: Starting that cable thread is a real pain.

It is a prob at times. Did the same thing a long time ago. Just took more time the 2nd time

Hi Fred. After I changed my cable when putting on the 2+2 bars, I had a leak in the same area. I'm running Redline Shockproof in the trans, so I knew right away it was trans fluid (looked like Pepto-Bismal).

It turned out that the leak was coming from between the metal ferrule that screws into the trans housing and the black plastic cable itself. Took awhile to find it.

That was a Drag Specialities +4" cable. I replaced it with a Barnett +6" when I had everything apart adding my mechanical reverse. I only had to take everything apart once.:clapping: The +6" cable let me route it a bit straighter in line with the ferrule, not as quick of a curve going down toward the frame where I Ty-rapped it. You might be able to see where it is seeping between the plastic and the metal parts of the cable. This pic is looking up from the floor. Good luck with it.

I had the leak in the same place with the first cable when switched to the 2+2 wide sweepers assumed full responsibility for my muscling in the +3 cable leaking. so I replaced with a +6 Barnett being very careful not to get flustrated threading it into the trans. cover that is a real bi#@h. Looks like I will be taking it apart and re-doing it all again in January may contact Barnett and ask for guidance who knows they may check the cables and see if they are bad. I have the +3 which just fit but the +6 is so easy to get in I thought I had it fixed. Thanks for the reply. Fred
