Oil mist on my rear cylinder exhaust heat shield and right side fender

I had the exact same problem with my 2017 Freewheeler. Turned out to be the "Y hose" inside the air cleaner had some small tears on both ends of the rubber. Replaced the hose and the oil misting on the right side stopped. Happy camper now! :clapping:

Yup, those breather hoses live in a hostile environment IMO they are not rated for oil

I replaced mine on my 15 Freewheeler twice under warranty

The 17 M8 set up is just as cheesie IMO

When ever I make a change to a work around to the stock HD set up I use either double wall hose or silicone hose

The silicone hose is more spendy but it holds up to heat and oil way better

When I modified mine to an external breather, I went with clear silicone & where it passes close to the engine, I split a black fuel line & covered it. After almost a year, it's still OK.

I did this mod but used heavy duty automotive fuel line to the catch can with a bracket to center it between the pipes. 1K miles with no sign of heat issues. Pretty amazed at the amount of oily vapor that gets removed.
