Hey, I just had my 15K service completed today and once again my LCD dipstick (PN#62700005) is reading HIGH OIL after the oil change. I was advised by another dealer there was a service bulletin or note about this but can not find any info. With the 5K and 10K service (oil high reading) I had oil blowing out the air filter and removed some oil which solved that problem.
Can anyone point me to the bulletin?

Thanks,

Dave

No bulletin, but I'd bet the tech threw 4 quarts of oil in and it read on the high side when cold....which would be over full when hot. Most bikes only need 3.5 qts at a typical oil change. 4 qts is dry fill, and the only way you get a dry fill is if the motors been apart.

You didn't say which HD you're riding, so I'm guessing it's a late model twin cam. Lizard is right, 3 1/2 quarts is right. The tech made an assumption about 4 qts. being right and didn't check his work. Best thing you can do is learn to do your own oil changes if that's possible for you. Learn a little bit here and a little bit there and the next thing ya know yer hoppin up your own engine. Buying a factory manual will pay for itself many times over. I read my first one from cover to cover as Harley's are different in some important areas than other bikes.

BTW, ya might want to check your digital dipstick against the stock dipstick that came with the bike. I've found some digital oil dipsticks aren't marked as carefully as they could have been.

Thanks for the input guys. I went back this morning and things were fixed after a quick explanation and apology from the service department. HD corporate replied to my question and about the accuracy of the dipstick- as long as it is marked for trike/sidecar use, it is accurate.
