Does any other riders have the problem of the engine noise, or it may be the alternator , coming through on the headset? For some time now I have been trying to eliminate this as it becomes quite wearied. Riding my other bike , a Yamaha xjr1300 it sounds so much less noisier, I do use ear plugs both on the solo and the trike . Most of the time that I ride the trike it is with my wife so using the communication system is always in use. The other day, after having been out on the xjr I needed to ride the trike back into the garage and had left my helmet on so the helmet wasn't connected to the Goldwing system. Boy was there a difference, just the same as on the XJR.

It seems that some how the noise we are getting though the head sets is some sort of feed-back from the engine or alternator.

Does any other trike owner have this problem and has anyone managed to eliminate it.

When I first purchased the bike, for conversion, it had an auto com system connected. I am now wondering if this had been the reason for its use. I have the auto com system on the XJR for use when I ride with my wife.

I suspect what you are hearing is being picked up by your mic and fed into the intercom system. How does it sound if you shut the intercom off?

I ride solo most of the time so it is not a big issue for me. The few times my wife does ride with me it is a real irritant that we can not communicate as well on the GL1800 (all three that I have owned). The entire com/audio package on the Yamaha Royal Star Venture I owned back in 2000 was far superior. That was the first thing I notice after changing bikes. Since I ride solo it isn't a problem for me. For others I can see where that is. :xszpv::xszpv:

If you can turn your mic off, cover it so no sound is picked up or unplug it, does the noise go away? If so it may well be ambient sound being picked up through the mic as Gold Rush suggested. You may just have to turn down your intercom volume and talk louder. If it still comes through, it will be system noise from the alternator or a ground fault.
I installed a ground-loop isolater, and that helped, though there was always some alternator whine. (Does yours increase in loudness or pitch when you blip the throttle? Then it's most likely alternator whine) I got the idolater at a rally at the Sierra Electronics display. I'm sure your local electronics store can help you out, too.
It was all cured when we got Sena 20S bluetooth communicators. Unless I get a bluetooth transmitter to send the bike's radio and weather bands to the communicator it has no connection at all the the bike intercom.

We have not had this problem riding 2-up, using the intercom, on either of our 2 GL1800 trikes. In fact, the few times we have done this we were amazed at how crystal clear and quiet it was.
Our CB radios also work very clear and strong between the 2 trikes.
Hope you can find and fix the problem.

It could be a Grounding problem in your com system :Shrug: Also the cable on your headset :Shrug:

Not enough separation in the wiring. It is picking up the induction. I had the same problem until I moved some wiring. A filter can also be purchased. Had the problem with my 2009. You need more shielding or need to rearrange some wiring. Could also be a lose or high resistant open. Hope that can be of some help in your resolving the problem.
