There is more info here than you will want to read. Go to Forums and scan down the list to "Brand Specific Discussion". There you will find all the pros and cons for all the different brands. Report back I a week or so and tell us what you deside. By the way, I drive a 1300 R VTX SA Champion. Lovin' it.

There are allot of options for kits out there and they depend on what suspension and/or features you want and how healthy your wallet is?
I suggest a raked triple tree also for handling ease.

I might make another suggestion?
Go to the right side of the forum and click on the sponsors and see what they have?
Also there are discounts on kits and parts by using and being a member of this forum.
I bought my front end parts and kit through the forum administrator and got some good prices without fear of being ripped off, (he cant hide and cant afford to piss off the trike community and helped me over some the bumps in the road i encountered)
I built the trike myself and have around $8,000 into the build using Bazooka's triple trees and a champion kit.
I love it.
As with any trike conversion the key factor between a good and bad trike rests entirely on the integrity of the builder and you can seek advice on the choice here also.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement and welcomes! So many options, hope you all don't mind the questions, hate to end up with buyers remorse.
I think I've narrowed it down to California Side Car, Hannigan or Roadsmith. Went to Bike week and really enjoyed time spent talking with Ruth and Herb at Hannigan nice looking bikes.ThumbUp Couple other vendors did nothing but bash the competition, (as a purchasing manager that is a big no no) so I'll need to allot more research! Looking froward to Wing Ding as Madison is a nice ride from Northern IL. and plan on demo rides there.

Thanks again for the welcomes and looking forward to participating.:pepper:

pcombe,
I thought about buying a Roadsmith kit and have a younger brother (great mechanic) help do the install myself... Just concerned about insurance on a DIY. Did this come up with your insurance?

Welcome from SW MO!
When it comes to choosing a conversion there is a lot of good info here. The kit makers nowadays all do a good job, what you end up with is in the details you want. Apart from IRS or solid axles, the general style of the kit, options and the little things each manufacturer does different something you may want to consider is availability of a good installer or a shop that will work on your chosen brand. You may really like Hannigan, (for example) but if the closest shop that will work on it is 4 hours away that may impact your decision. Also research your installer just as much as the kit you choose. The best engineered, most expensive (not necessarily the same thing) kit you can buy will will only give problems if it installed ineptly. And most of all, have fun!

Welcome from Central Texas! I have just triked my Yamaha Stratoline in January and went through all you are doing now. I got on Trike Talk and got a lot of very important info, that I never thought of! I decided to go with a professional installer, just to have someone to go back to if I have problems and to reduce the chance of problems (non so far, yea!). He specialized in MotorTrike and California Side Car. I looked at ALL the kits (they said they would install any kit for me) and finally decided on the CSC with IRS. Take your time deciding what you want and then go with the gusto, you will be so glad you did and you will love triking as much as we do. Ride safe, post often and most important, post pictures when ya-get-er-done!

I didn't have any trouble with my Insurance in the state of Wyoming as long as i used a certified kit from a recognized manufacturer, (I'm only talking about Wyoming mind you?) but you may want to use the search feature at the top right of the forum page and type in insurance, if you don't see what you want post a question for folks in your state to respond too.
I did find that it was an advantage to switch my ins. after 35 years to a different company as they gave me better coverage for less money.
The details escape me right now but some company's insure a trike for less than a bike. I was triking out my 25yr. old Tour glide ultra and dairyland just couldn't cut it any more.
