I'm a late bloomer with my interest in motorcycles, and was leaning toward a trike for my first one. I was wondering how getting your license with a trike works? I came across a thread here from a Google search from someone coming to NC, but didn't see any updates apart from them being told by email they could take the test on a trike.

I see there are a few 3 wheel specialty MSF courses, but none close to the part of WNC where I am. I don't even see any of the local DMV's taking appointments online for as much as a learner's permit.

I wonder if your questions about trikes might be better answered by the DMV Kyle? Welcome to the site, tons of good info here. Being a late bloomer doesn't hurt a darned thing. Might mean you are more mature than many of us were when we picked up our experience doing dumb things we wouldn't do as a full blown adult.

Do a Google search for the classes. Many community colleges have them on the weekends. Ones in eastern NC travel around between several colleges with 3 wheelers in a trailer. My wife had to travel 50 miles for 3 day classes but got the job done. Plus with the completion certificate you do not have to take the driving test. Just the questions and the eye test.

Luck to you.

If you can check with any Dealers in your area. They may have a class or point you in the right direction.

Good Luck.........ThumbUp

Thanks, all! Unfortunately Covid has done a number on the DMV in NC (and it wasn't too hot to begin with). The local one isn't answering phones and is apparently booked up till July, per the community FB group. Some parents were having to go multiple counties over to get their kids' drivers licenses.

I did look into some of the courses, which seems like a good way to go anyway between the skills test waiver, and getting a taste to see if I really like it. The closest one I saw was 2 hours away though. I'm pretty sure I did read that at least in NC, they only accept MSF waivers from MSF classes *in* NC. I'd love to be wrong on that, being able to look for classes in East TN would be helpful.

Check out a Harley dealer some of them have the classes...
