Hi. I have been riding for over 60 years now, and realize I am not going to be able to ride two wheels much longer, so started looking for a trike. MY issue now, is it seems that the MOT in Ontario is telling me I must have a mechanical parking brake to pass safety. Not sure if there is even such a thing out there out there. Found a locking clamp for front brake lever that would prevent bike rolling, but mechanic says no. Has to be separate. My only option at this point is to remove the kit, have the bike certified then re-install. Suggestions appreciated.

Harley factory trikes have parking brakes as do the Canadian made Spyders. You would have to check out the individual conversions to see if they have one available.

In looking at the avatar pic, is that an outrigger kit or actual trike?
It is an actual trike kit. 3 on the back, 1 on front. 2004 Suzuki 1500 intruder. Just recently purchased so not sure whose kit. Looks pretty, rides rough. Still getting used to. Just sold my 85 vw trike (V Cycle) and was going to stop riding, but can't help myself. Prior to the VW had a 2013 Spyder RT. Found everything had to be done by dealer (400 for oil change) and 980cc for 2 up doesn't cut it. Very sexy looking, but so was my first wife. Last 2 wheeler was Kawasaki 1500, too heavy for my 81 year old legs.

I have heard there were rules that made trikes a bit tricky there. It will come down to how much work/expense you want to put into it.I would think that if you can find something that used the same wheel bolt pattern an take the complete backing plate an drum and have a flange welded to your axle that the backing plate would mount to.Then i would just be a matter of a cable and handle.

Those are called outrigger kits with 3 wheels in the rear, a real trike has 2 in the back. All that has to be done is unbolt the kit and they have access to the rear brakes so they can be certified. Once the check is done the unit can be reinstalled.
