hello everyone! I just joined the group. I have an 08 goldwing, but have not triked it yet. I plan to do so in a couple of years but have wanted a trike for some time. Does anyone know if triking a wing voids the warranty? Was told by the honda dealership it did void the warranty. I am looking forward to triking it later. I am enjoying this forum in the meantime.

Welcome to you J! Glad you found us. This is a good place to get all your questions answered now, then you'll be ready to go when you do put the trike kit on!

Welcome aboard jnorth. I would suggest that you contact a Honda dealer that also deals in Trikes. They will probably work with you if they want your business.

Welcome aboard!! As for Honda and warranty......it didn't seem to bother my local Honda folks when I took my 07 Shadow MotorTrike in for minor warranty work. I bought it as "turnkey" and NOT from them. They handled it anyway...NO PROBLEM. In case you are wondering, the work involved replacing the fuel petcock as the internal diaphragms had ruptured (less than 200 miles on the maschine).

Trike yours and Trike On

This has been discussed on the big GL1800 board at length. Many motorcycle dealers are clueless and I wouldn't want to deal with them except in an emergency. Others understand the difference between a failure that is and one that is not trike related.

To the same extent that a bike manufacturer cannot reasonably be expected to warrant trike parts, it should not (cannot) expect to get off the hook for bike failures that are not trike related.

Almost without exception, motorcycle dealers who sell trikes will service (and perform legitimate warranty work on) trikes purchased elsewhere. Some with small service departments and without trike lifts shy away while others find a way to make do. Those who turn up their noses at performing service on trikes do so at the peril of their bottom line, in my opinion.

jnorth the sad part is that after you trike it you are gona wish you did it a lot earlier. As far as the service goes . I would trike it with 0 miles on it right out of the crate and have no guarantee if I had to in order to ride a trike

Can't speak for Honda, but I can tell you that I bought my Suzuki/Lehman trike brand new from a dealer, along with an extended warranty so the trike would be covered as long as the bike part. Two years later, another dealer told me that the extended warranty wasn't worth the paper it was written on - the company that services that warranty said the trike voided it. I talked to my dealer, and he said "Yes, we're having a problem with them. Lehman and Suzuki are trying to work with them". I agreed to give him a few weeks for the "agreement" to take place before insisting on a full refund....his time's just about up. ;)

So yes, I'd ask around. No reason a trike should void the warranty on the bike portion, but sad fact is it just might.

My wife don't want me to trike it because of the warranty loss. Then theres the money issue since I am paying monthly payments on the wing now. I know I will enjoy not worrying about the weight on the wing at stops and turnarounds. I am not as young as I used to be when I rode my first wing; didn't worry about the wieght then. It also bothers me that when someone is on the back the wing is very heavy to me to hold up. so.... I know I will enjoy the trike when I finally get one! anyway I am enjoying this forum!!
