New Trailer

I built a trailer for a friend using the harbor freight trailer a couple years ago. The only issue we ran into was very warped wheels. He took them back and got replacements and all is well.

It's a good economical way to trailer if you are not going to do it often enough to justify the BIG BUCKS !! :xszpv::xszpv:

I ran one of these kits for a couple of years without any problems with it. It will bounce a little but nothing you can't live with for the weight and price. As you build it pack the wheel bearings with a better high temp grease and take the spring packs apart and leave out the 2nd spring. If your trike has a 5 wire plug you will have to add another set of lights to the trailer or add a converter so you have separate brake and turn signal lights.

Hmm, I have actually thought about getting one of these myself. My only concern is that it only has the 8" wheels. I am wondering if a person could install 12" after buying the trailer.

I have one and love it. 8" wheels no problem.
I have about 8k on it now and the tires are just starting to show wear.

Best buy on the market.

12 inch wheels and tires will not work with the fenders, I tried. You really can't raise the fenders enough because they will hit the lower part of the body (carrier). If you measure the overall height of the 8 wheel and tire vs the 12 wheel and tire you don't gain a lot. I don't think you will have a tire or bearing problem unless you do some serious long distance high speed running. Or at least thats MHO. The bigger reason to go to the 12 inch wheels is for the ride which is why in the end I ended up with a Bushtec trailer and the 16 inch wheels because it rides great and never bounces. The taller the wheel and tire the easier it rolls over bumps and potholes.

Now having said all of that, you can't beat the HF kit for the bucks, especially if you don't do a lot of long distance touring or run the trailer all the time.

I have one and it serves my purposes well; economically and in functionality. A 12 inch wheel and tire may not be a practical mod but changing to a 5.70 tire may fulfill the need. 5.70s provide roughly 2 inches of additional diameter over a 4.80 tire. Remember also that a taller tire will modify the rake of the trailer tongue to the hitch, so a draw bar with the appropriate drop/rise may be needed in order for the trailer to ride level.

These are good little trailers. Just to clarify, you can add 12" wheels. I just added some washers as spacers between the plastic fender and the angle-iron mount, enough to raise the fender & give about 2" clearance between tire & fender.

Got the chrome wheels/tires off ebay at a good price. The trailer rides a little higher, but just as well as with 8" wheels. Even with only one leaf spring, I put two bags of sac-krete, 160# in the trailer and didn't budge that spring.

It's worked well, so far.

Awesome to know that 12" can be installed with a little work. :clapping:
