The OEM passenger backrest from HD was too close to the driver for comfort. I had a local Blacksmith / welder fabricate a new passenger back rest. It moved the backrest pad back between 2-1/2" and 3" and made a world of difference for both my wife and me in comfort. With the OEM backrest the pad was about 2" onto the seat when looking down. Now as evidenced by the photo the pad is about an inch past the back of the seat. The trunk will barely clear the back of the backrest so he got it just right. This guy fabricated it by hand in between jobs. Took him 4 weeks before it was finished because he had to take care of emergency and call out jobs as they came up. He originally quoted me "about $40.00" and ended up only accepting $30.00 because "it took him so long". It had a lot of grind marks in it but I cleaned it up and coated it with 4 coats of spray on black Plasti-Dip rubber coating which hid a lot of the small imperfections. I have $36.00 in the whole thing including the can of Plasti-Dip.

Wife is happy so I am happy.

It is made out of 3/4" round solid bar stock just like the OEM. So far, about 250 miles on it and no issues. Don't think there is going to be any problems.

I asked a local metal fab shop and they quoted me close to $900. :xzqxz:

PLEASE Send me contact info for this shop so I can call them and get one made and shipped.

Unfortunately he does not want to fabricate any more of these. He is a one man welding shop / blacksmith and he stays very busy doing on site welding for the local ranchers and farmers. He said he just doesn't want to do anymore custom fab work like this. It took him 4 weeks to get it done right. He used the OEM one I had as a template and did all of the fab work by hand. I had to take it back to him once to re-do as it didn't fit right the first time.

$900.00 is totally absurd. Sounds to me like they really don't want the job. See if you can find a small welding shop or a blacksmith and I bet you can get it done for a WHOLE LOT less.

The exact reason I bought the Mustang seat that has the passenger backrest. The OEM takes up too much of the rear seat. I'll still use the OEM but not when I have a passenger.

Well done Sunman!

Thanks. I should have considered the Passenger backrest for the Mustang seat when I bought it; it might have been a better way to go. Only thing is the wife really likes the oversized backrest pad that is in the photo. So.... happy wife, happy life! Lol!

Remember the old saying: A miss is as good as a mile!! :) :xszpv:

Yep. The only problem I see is if I have a bag on the luggage rack it is right up against the backrest. Might have to remover the bag when opening the trunk but that is a small price to pay for the extra comfort.

Two questions...Does the mustang seat give the rider more leg room vs stock? and does the mustang seat with the passenger backrest have more room for the passenger vs. stock? Thanks
