New to the thread, first question is: thinking of trikeing my 2001 Wing with103,000 miles or getting a later year used low mileage model all ready triked.am 66 years old but not having any problems on 2 wheels yet but i know the time will come when I will feel more secure on 3 wheels when the wife is on board. to trike old 2001 or upgrade, that is the?? thoughts and experiences welcome.

Welcome Donmac! Glad you joined us.I guess it depends on what you have.I think I would look for a used one with less miles.RIDE SAFE

Check the used trikes on this site. A friend is selling an 02 GW yellow Champion with 11,000 with a matching trailer. Make an offer. Sell yours and buy this might be cheaper than TriKing yours .and you would have 100,000 less miles and a trailer or a trailer to sell.

welcome aboard. I would think selling and getting something newer might be the way to go.

Welcome- I think it would not be a good idea to invest the money in a conversion on that high mile of a bike. Also, the added weight of the kit on that tired drivetrain could be demise in itself. From a resale standpoint it would not be adviseable as well. Ask lots of questions and I am sure you can get pointed in the right direction. :wave4:

Welcome to Trike Talk, Donmac. And kudos on the not bad mileage racked up on the Wing. I rarely see another 100k'er. I would tend to agree with everyone else. With the cost of triking it, might want something with lower mileage. Of course, being an HD person, I have no idea what rebuilding an engine/tranny runs for with a Wing. If you like the bike, then keep it and expect to rebuild at some point.

With that many miles and if most are yours, then yes it would be better to get a new lower miles wing. You may find one already triked that you like. Then hey no waiting, jump on and ride!

Welcome Aboard!! You'll find this to be a really GREAT place....

I'm on my second GL1800. First one '01 had 68K plus when I traded for my '06. At 73K it got a the Motor Trike conversion and now is close to 100K.

My suggestion is to take a serious look at your '01 with a critical mind. If you find it to be solid then triking it is not a bad idea. There are many GL1800 out there with over 200K on them and I know of a couple 300K bikes.

Another thing you might want to consider it the cost. To convert your '01 it's gonna cost between 12 and 15 thousand $$ by the time you are done (depending on kit and options). To buy a trike ready to roll you will be looking between $18K and $26K (again depending on options). Selling yours and finding a newer/lower mileage GL1800 is gonna cost but that depends on what you find and what you can get for yours...

Weigh all options and be comfortable with you decision before doing anything. Changing your mind will really be expensive. All that being said, If you are wanting a new or newer GL1800 of course now it the time to do that. If you are looking to get into a trike as economical as possible and your '01 is solid then why not.

I went through the same thing last Nov. My "03" had 103,000 on it. I got a 2010 and triked it after 8,000. Going with less miles is always the best choice. You could probably pick up one already triked with fewer miles that would be in great shape and reliable.

Thanks for the input,I bought the bike new August of 2001 and haven't had any problems except for when the sun is beating directly on the dash on a hot day the spedo cover heats up and causes the speedometer to stick. all the recalls have showed it had none of the problems called in for. I really want a newer one and when the time comes and I find the one we want I will be 3 wheeling!

Welcome Don
Check the classifieds on this site, they're some really nice ones for sale. One is only about an hours ride from you.
