Late Thursday night I was in my garage working out (Boxing)
I noticed this truck going up and down the road stopping and looking at different houses.
Seemed kind of strange so I walked out to the road to and watched them .

The next day I found my mailbox ripped off the post.
I called the sheriff’s department to report it.
The sheriff said they were most likely casing the houses, He said there has been some break-ins in our area lately.

So I had to replace my mailbox
I ended up welding 6 6’ T post together and extended them by another foot to make them 7’
I also added 2 as diagonal supports

I then built a rebar cage around my mailbox and added a steel plate with my house # on it

I used 4 80lbs bags of concrete to plant it in the ground.

There is no way once the concrete fully hardens someone will be able to pull it down without hooking it up to a truck or something

The rope is there just until the concrete dries

Bob, the only thing I would add to that is a "Hangman's Noose" from the bottom of the mailbox to add to your already message. Of course make it out of metal. :Coffee:

Years ago my buddy lived on a dead end cul-de-sac. Well kids liked to come down and run over the mail box. So he got a piece of railroad track, made mailbox out of 3/8 plate welded all together, 4 ft down with concrete. One night he wakes up to flashing lights, theres a wrecker loading up a car. Nobody ran into it after that. By the way if you read the regulations a post can't be so permanent that it can't move. Thats so if the mail person hits it it won't damage the vehicle.

Thanks for the advice/warning

I looked up the code for our area and it does not state anything like that.
The Postal service has "recommendations" but from what I can tell its not law.
I talked to the Mail lady and the sheriff before I put it up both seem to think it was a good idea.

There are a number of concrete mail post around my area they would be just as bad.

1 last thing, The speed on my road is 15 MPH. Although hitting it at 15mph would still do some damage to a car I don't think it would cause a life treating injury

The more elaborate your mail box is , The more changeling it is for the neighborhood Yahoos to try to knock it down... Thats why my mail box is an old Soup can tied to a stick....

All kidding aside nice mail box...ThumbUp

When I was a kid someone came down our road and put a cherry bomb in the mailbox. Dad welded a new one out of 3/8 inch plate. Box weighs 75 lbs. Same guy hit is with his car a few years ago and it TOTALLED his car, but only the post was damaged. When he hit the front edge of the mailbox it opened up the roof of his car like a can opener. Some kids drove up and put a cherry bomb in it again a few years after he built it and the box acted like a barrel and blew the window out of the kids car.

It has been there for nearly 60 years now... The lid broke off several years ago and the post office claims it "isn't regulation" whatever the hell that means, but they keep putting mail in it.

That would probably get you arrested for displaying an offensive symbol. You know how easy it is to offend certain people these days.

I imagine you are right, if he was down where the KKK used to play but being all the way up north in Va., he may get away with it.
