New Laws in Louisiana

Just got a break from the state. New law effective August 1, 2014. "Single-axle, two-wheeled trailers and boat trailers no longer require state inspections." That saves me $30 a year since I have two trailers (Timeout camper and Piggy Backer cargo) I pull with the trike and a small trailer I haul the lawnmower on. They also finally figured out that inspection stations have bays they use so this second law also goes in effect today "Vehicle inspection stations can conduct their inspections in the rain." Never understood why they couldn't inspect if it was raining, it's not like they test the brakes or heck even drive the vehicle. Finally the lawmakers have a bit of sense.

Laws in the "Common Folks" favor are ALWAYS a Great Thing, but getting rarer by the day....."Some Folks" think we can't look after Ourselves as well as "They" can, and think We need more rules and regulations.....ThumbUp

I can see why they couldn't inspect in the rain. We have some garages here in NH with outside lifts and if it was raining it would cause a safety problem because the vehicle could fall off the lift if the lift pads were wet and you had to do work on it that required pulling/pushing on the vehicle.
I know I wouldn't want to work under a vehicle in the rain while up on the lift.

That would be understandable but here in Louisiana all they do is take your money and put the sticker on. They never touch the car except to scrape the old sticker off and put the new one on. They don't check the lights, horn, or brakes let alone put it up on a rack. Don't tell anyone but I got my bike inspected and didn't even take the bike, just the paperwork and got the sticker since they don't put it on the bike but staple it to the registration. In all it is just a tax nothing more.

That's really sad, because the people are loosing in this. One, you pay for nothing, two, if there is a problem with the vehicle, you could get into a serious accident by the garage not doing their job.
It puts the responsibility on the car owner to make sure everything is OK to drive, and you know how good that is! Some people take very good care of their rides, others are an accident waiting to happen, which could take you out along with them.
Sad...very sad!
NH, you better be on top of your ride, if not it fails, both mechanically and with the air pollution system. $25 to $40 per year, depending on where you go, garage sets the rate, but has to pay the state for the stickers and be licensed to inspect. Motorcycles/trikes $25-30 per year.

It is just a money game, hi dollar in some counties in texas. like insurance, if you are here illegally & don't have a drivers license, you don' have to have it.

Yep. I sure didn't see that one coming and just had a new 2-year inspection done on my trailer and trike just before heading up to the TrikeTalk Reunion....ohhhh well....LOL
