TrikeTalk: Intro/Tips
My name is Henry with over 50 years of riding and thought it was time I made a web based contribution to also serve as a brief intro. Viet Nam vet, 76 yrs old.
We recently purchased a Harley FLRTR, i.e.: Roadglide trike. Red Rock color, chrome version. Intro part: Said I’d never own a trike but given wife’s osteoporosis and necessity to ride, 2024 Daytona bike week, and when she saw this one…….it was over! Took a little while to adjust but we love it. 1200 mi first 6 wks. No more concerns re: gravel roads, tar strips, safer for her, REVERSE, and etc..
My mods are mostly focused on folks our age but apply to potentially all. First I had to soften up that clutch. I have installed Burley kits on all my Harleys but I knew that alone would not be enough so I also installed the Muller (sp) kit. Great friction engagement zone, went from a full hand pull to index finger! Installed at 100 miles. Only needed to remove front two exhaust pipe shields, slid third one back alittle to access trans cover for removal. By modifying a couple allen wrenches and having a ball end on one of them……pretty easy. Retained gasket although I did drain trans and reused the oil. Used the auto-adjuster which leaves very little hand grip play. Wonderful engagement feel and EASY neutral locate!!
Other couple mods are visibility focused. Installed Eaglelights modulation brake/tail lights and their front Vent Insert LED run/turn kit. Fairing needs to be removed which is simple. Perfect no-drill installtion.
I also added a clear curved 10” Long Ride Shield. Sweet! I’m 6 ft, FYI.
There is also a Navy Vet on Ebay that makes Front Vent Caps for Roadies. $20 and so clever, easy on/off.
Probably won’t change exhaust as stock is good enough for us. We’re averaging 42-43 mpg which about where our 2017 Heritage was.
We own a few other toys the favorite being our 1964 Impala SS, 327/300 4 spd convertible. Aqua, white top and interior. Many of you folks will relate to this one! High school days, first lay, we hear it all!!
Regards.............Henry and JoAnne
