I am old.....school and not really a cell phone kind of guy. I use mine to make and receive a few dozen calls a year and that is about it. While riding the phone is in the Tour Pac because I am not fond of that almost useless little flip up box on the right of the dash. The Blue Tooth notifies me on the dash screen whenever I get a call, and since I do not have a comm set yet, I have no need to try to answer or make calls while riding, so I am not really sure why the heck I would need a phone close at hand. But I had an idea, so I am trying this, and I guess it could come in handy if I end up getting a tuner that uses an app on your phone as a screen.
A rubber strap from a cheap bicycle cell phone bar mount
A piece of scrap aluminum
Some Velcro
It is easy to slap on and off, VERY close at hand. It feels fairly secure while tapping or swiping the screen. And even though is is not mounted solid it should stay put in any condition short of a crash. I can even carry the phone in my pocket with the rubber strap and plate still on the phone.
I think I will try this out with an old scrap phone first though. I would hate to find out why it didn't work by seeing the phone bouncing down the road in my mirror. lol

Revision V-1

I made the plate and re-pourposed the strap because thought I wanted to avoid putting Velcro on the phone case itself, but since the bike is black, the phone case is black, a little strip of Velcro on the case didn't look too bad. And this simplifies the process IF I should want to ride with my phone in my crotch. :pepper:

Well, if you're really Old School, you lived Without a Cell Phone. Most people today go no where without that stupid cell phone in their hand. Just look around the next time your out and about. Teenage drivers in auto crashes have increased from cell phone distractions, and I'm sure with adults also . How many times have you been behind that car stopped at the Red light still sitting there after the light changes to Green.

Just put it away, in the tourpak or bag. Check it when you pit stop.

Oh Well, guess I'm just Ole School

Do what you want, just stay away from me on the road. :Coffee:

Ride Safe

I guess I wasn't clear. I do NOT use my cell phone while riding. It would be extremely unsafe, and here in California Illegal.

I went for a little ride on Sunday with friends, and we ended up at Cooks Corner, a local infamous gathering spot for bikers. As usual there were hundreds and hundreds of bike there of all makes, colors and styles. While walking through the myriad of bikes I started to notice just how many riders ride with a cell phone mounted somewhere in the cockpit. Most were bar mounted with some sort of articulating arm and base for their phone. Some bikes looked like the war room (Mothers basement) of a computer nerd troll with multiple info screens. One guy had a suction cup holder stuck to the tank with an 8" rigid but flexable arm to hold the phone. It completley took away from what was a relatively nice bike, and looked like a deadly spoor was growing out of the tank.

I did this to see if I 'could' simplify things and for a cleaner look, and in anticipation of getting a tuner that uses a cell phone as the control panel. And NOT so I can chat, sext, text or chase Pokey Mon while driving ;) And it don't get much simpler than two pieces of Velcro :D

I''ll start this post with the only things i can do with my cell phone is receive and send a call. And if all the cell phone Gods are with me at the time maybe send a Text...

So I keep my cell phone in my pocket on my person... For three reasons;

Reason#One] I tend forget a lot'' So I don't have to worry if i park my Trike/Bike and forget to take the phone with me some Cretin doesn't get a free phone and make unlimited calls to Guatemala...

Reason # Two] If i happen to get separated from said Trike/Bike ' i.e... Falloff then the phone is with me to call for help..Or worst case some first responder can call Family...

Reason # Three] I forgot what the reason is for # three.. So go back to the beginning of Reason # 1

My Indian has bluetooth ability so my phone stays in the tourpak normally connected and playing Sirius XM. I tried to get Siri to work but she's a whore. She would just say, "I'm sorry, I can't do that while you are in the car". And that was to a command to play music which should have just played what I had downloaded. Did that when my XM signal faded. I gave up on the bitch. I wouldn't be surprised if she isn't the cause of a lot of wrecks as people fight with her to do a simple task.:AGGHH: I did get her to tell me the temperature once which once she told me I really didn't want to know.:gah:
