Can you use a solid axle for your trike?
I was told that you could use the drums off any car. Just cut the drums off
the rear axle of the car. weld them on a straight solid axle for your bike.
Can any tell me if this is right.

Well if is a shaft driven bike you might be able to shorten the tubes and axles and use that. No to your question more complicated than just cutting off the brake drums and sticking it to the back of the bike .

Welcome aboard. What they are telling you is the basic concept. Most straight axle trike kits have a modified rear differential/axle. Basicly the housing and the axles are shortened. Some strainght axle kits build their own differential setup. It's not that simple but that is the idea.

No, you can not use a straight axle on a GoldWing Trike. Wings use modified automotive differentials w/shortened axles or new axles made specifically for use on a trike conversion. This is also true of any motorcycle w/a drive shaft.
Yes, you can on bikes w/belt drive or chain drive. These have a rear sprocket placed on the solid axle models. So on these type bikes you could weld on drum brakes but, why not use disc brakes?
Also, although you didn't ask
Straight axle trikes corner better
IRS trikes give a smoother ride

I wouldn't use a soiled axle on any bike:D Just kidding:rolleyes:
