Need help with forks!

I am getting ready to paint my VW trike and do some repairs & mods. while tore down. My problem is my front forks. They just don't feel right, tire lean, alot of up & down movement. I am at an impass. Any suggestions or Ideas???????? It is homebuilt with an 80's Yamaha tripple tree, one piece fork tubes. (can't figure out how to up load pics)

Buckshaw,

Most of the time, the forks need to be rebuilt.
That means new fork oil, seals and dust covers.
However, sometimes the forks CANNOT be rebuilt for one reason or another.
Sometimes, the fork springs need to be replaced.
If they do have to be replaced, you can get different spring rates to adjust the ride.
As the other member pointed out, check to see if the fork tubes are bent.
All it takes is 1/16th of an inch and everything is whacked out.

I had a set of forks from a medium size bike on my VW trike when I got it.
After we rebuilt my trike the way I wanted it, the front end seemed "loose" and
it wasn't that smooth a ride.

I replaced the front forks with the forks off a 1984 Honda 1200 Gold Wing and the difference was night and day.
The Wing forks were bigger, heavier and the ride was a lot better and more solid feeling.

Just take your time and I wish you the best.

Happy Holidays!
