NEED a trike

Hi all! I am brand new to this site...just found it today while I was searching for trike information. I currently ride an 07 Roadstar bike that I really need to convert to a trike. My wife had a mild stroke almost 2 years ago and has not been able to ride with me since then because she just can't climb on. Also, I had 2 open heart surgeries last year and am scheduled for rotator cuff surgery next week. In fact, I could barely pick up my laptop a few minutes ago. I know it will be a while before I can ride again, but I think a conversion would make a LOT of sense for the two of us to invest in. I am still researching my options and I'm glad I found this site to increase my knowledge of triking. I am really leaning towards the Champion conversion. There is a dealer a few hours from me that I am thinking about going to see in a couple of days. I would appreciate ANY thoughts and advice from my new found friends.

Hi Sarge. Welcome to TrikeTalk. You found the best trike forum on the web (no bias here, I'm sure ;))! I have the Champion conversion with the fixed suspension on my trike and love it! I've never had a moment of problem with it and would certainly lean toward that again based on my own positive experience. That said, there are a number of top notch companies with wonderful trike conversions available, and I honestly would be comfortable recommending any and all of them! Several offer independent suspension, and those who have that love it just as much as I love mine.... it really comes down to personal preference. Take time and read here as much as you can on existing posts, and I know others will chime in with input too. Having a dealer you can easily get to when needed is an important consideration and a big plus.

Anyway keep us updated on your decision and progress toward the trike! And best of luck with the shoulder surgery next week. Dreaming of triking will help you heal quickly, I'm sure.

Hi Sarge, Welcome to the Forum. As Nana said, the best there is! If you cant't get the info & assistance here :)confused:) it dont exist! Trikes are the perfect solution for aching / aging bones...I know!! I am a re;lative newby & am on 03 GL1800 California SideCar (CSC) trike & love it. Check-out the CSC site.

Hello from a rookie (hopefully I'm not quite a newbi anymore.)

One piece of advice.........

Call the dealer(s) in advance and see if they have some trikes on display, or out on the lot. My wife is small and is having a dickens of a time getting on and off. Perhaps you may need something like a Goldwing, which can be fitted (I think) with full length running boards to make life easier.

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome Sarge, I'm pretty new myself. Picked up a '95 Goldwing a couple of months ago with a CSC conversion. Really like it, but I haven't been able to sell my '07 Roadstar, and am considering selling the wing and putting a conversion on the Yamaha.
I just took the Roadstar out around the bypass, about 25 miles, and it's really hard to get that big twin out of your system. The wing has stereo, CB, cruise control and runs great, but it really doesn't sit as comfortable as the roadstar.
Anyway, I'll follow your triking experience with the star with a lot of interest, and may have to go that way also. Good Luck!

welcome aboard sarge. Get lots of input. Sounds like you may either have yours converted or buy one that is done. The dealer/builder is the key. a good shop makes all the difference. Most of the conversions are top rate and each has it's own plus's, but the shop you deal with is the real answer.

As you can see by my avatar, we made our move. We are to proud owners of this new trike. It will be a little while before I can do much with her due to my shoulder surgery. Right now she is my encouragement to do my physical therapy like I am suppose to. Hope to be back on the roads in about a month...but will take short rides around town until then.

Woo-hoo--congratulations, and wishing you many happy miles together!!!

Did you go with a Champion conversion? My Honda VTX1300, Goldie, has a Champion kit, installed by our very own Bazooka. Had her close to a year and a half now and I have never looked back (well, except to make sure the Chief and his HD Road King are able to keep up! :D;):D )

Have fun and post some photos first chance you get--we LOVE the trike photos!

Yep, I'm likin' my Trike more every ride, and is already my all time favorite Motorcycle of the several hundred I've owned in over 40 years of ridin'. I have a 2010 1800 Gold Wing with the Motor Trike Adventurer IRS type, and Their 4.5 degree rake kit. I too, have a Great dealer for these just 4 miles up the road. Personally I feel Great Dealer Support means a lot, since there are several really great Kits, both Rigid and IRS on the market nowadays.....:)

Well if anyone is looking for that other same bike, that is exactly the color combo I am getting. As far as I can tell, it was delivered to an H-D dealer in NJ. Then my Long Island dealer traded them for it. It's supposed to be delivered on Tuesday. Hopefully when I fly back from a job in Chattanooga Friday I will be able to pick it up.
