My glue melted today!!

Traveling across Kansas today, on I-70, with what registered on my temp readout to be 105 degrees F. I peer down at my floorboard rubber insert to see it shifted forward half way off the board. The next rest stop I take a closer inspection to see the adhesive is melted. My wife's left hand board is doing the same thing. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I guess with the combined ambient temp, road heat and any engine heat, the glue just couldn't take it!!

What is the ultralight in your avatar? Is it yours? I used to have one called a Weedhopper. The company was located in Ogden UT and I owned 1/3 of the company. It went under when the designer crashed in a different type of ultralight and his wife took over bankrupted the company and closed up. Last I heard someone had bought the name and was making them in FL.

I've ridden in temperatures warmer than that and haven't had anything like that happen. I did notice my handlebar grips got kind of mushy in Death Valley at 110 one time.

Glad you made it thru in one piece
That kind of temp is hard on the body.

The ultralight looks like a cgs hawk. I remember the weed hopper on the cover of PM back a few years ago, brings back memories of my building ultralights days.

It is a 2 place side x side Ultralight called a T-Bird (Golden Circle Aircraft) out of Iowa. Used to be called Teratorn. I thought they were out of business but see it's now Indy Aircraft. My brother and I were into it from 1999 to about 2003. It was a "fat" ultralight with a 618 Rotax engine and Ballistic parachute recovery system. We had a lot of fun with it but was somewhat expensive to operate. When they went to a Sport Aircraft license we got rid of it. The picture depicts one of the better landings!!! LOL!

I've seen your T-bird avatar, and wondered when it would come up in conversation. I built / flew a Advanced Aviation Cobra from '83 to '95 above Southeastern Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, both AA and the Cuynua engine stopped supplying parts (for insurance liability reasons, I'm told) and I sold it on eBay. My wife was happy when I sold it and bought a motorcycle.

We had it hangared at Woodbine, NJ airport for a short while which was only a stone throw away from the ocean and bay. My favorite was to drop down to 50' and ride along the shore. Everybody would be waving, made you think you were a president or something! Of course they could have been shaking their fists at us, Hmmm, Oh well, we had a great time anyway. I'll gather a few picts and post them.............Rob

Great pix ~ especially the one from the air looking down over the river below. As you said in an early post, a lot of people waved (I got a lot of waving too; most were kids :wave4 and for some reason, pilots seemed to gravity to water & and hot air balloons.

But with all the photos I took, I was never able to inspire others with the magical awe of flying. I few of my buddies tried introductory flights, but where I described the beauty and amazement of flying, they only described fear, and how far down it looked from the aircraft.
