I used a 2012 ultra seat on our free until my seat got back from being modified. I leaves a gap on the side at the side covers. Other than that it fit just fine.
One may be able to had a adjustment made to fit better but you will need to have the trike when it is done in order to get it right.

Received this response this morning..............

Almost soon ;) Within the next few weeks. We are bringing a lot of product to market and we don’t want to make premature promises.

I called Mustang Friday and was able to preorder the new seat for the Freewheeler. Seems that these will be built as ordered with a 3-4 week lead time. Lookin forward to getting the seat. Will post pictures when I get it on.

Don't mean to be impatient but about time mustang.

Thank you for letting us know. Please post pics of the seat when you get it. Id like to know what it looks like before I order one. Appreciate the information.

Hoping for more of a stock style seat with mustang comfort. Guess Ill have to call them and see what they have up there sleeve. id still love to see pics when you get the seat on. And riding impressions of the comfort difference. Thanks !!

Mustang Seat

I'm just wondering how it fits with the sissy bar/passenger backrest. I think it looks good and after waiting to see the comments on here after some people try it, I'll probably get one.

I think they're talking about the Harley frame-mounted rider's backrest mount and not the sissy bar. Since the Mustangs have built-in backrest hardware this makes sense. I've seen a picture somewhere out there (can't find it now) of the new Mustang seat on a Freewheeler with a sissy bar in place.

.
You are correct, the Harley driver backrest mount is used for the factory seats with the split. They mount to the frame under the seats .The Mustang seats have the mount built into the seat for the backrest. I've had the Mustang seat ordered for about 4 weeks now. I will take some pictures as soon as I receive it. I'll get some of the seat fitment with the passenger backrest as well.

I emailed mustang.

Message:Hello. In the description for the Mustang seat for the 2015 Freewheeler you say it will not work with the frame mounted backrest. Are you refering to the passenger or driver backrest. I have the removable Harley passenger back rest on mine and would like to know if it will still work with this seat.

Reply: Cannot use the Rider backrest. It fits with the passenger backrest

Translation: Mustang wants you to buy their driver backrest. :)

Talked to Mustang yesterday

I talked to Mustang yesterday. They said you can not use the stock sissy bar with passenger backrest with their seat. The back of their seat is too wide and high but much more comfortable for passenger. They want $250 more for the passenger backrest made for their seat. That's about $950 for the whole set up. It may be a great seat but that's a little steep for me to pay out.

Mustang seats called me yesterday and my seat is shipping out today. Should have by Monday. I will take pictures as soon as I get it on. I hope that the passenger backrest will work with the seat. Will know for sure soon.

Looking at pictures of the mustang seat installed looks like it should work with the sissy bar. I would think if the tallboy works the mustang should too. It's 1 1/2" narrower than the tallboy. Should know by Monday afternoon. They said they would call when it shipped, but got neither a call or email from Mustang. Got mine direct from ups. Mustang has not been too good with communication on this one. As much as I like Mustang, if it doesn't work with the sissy bar it goes back.

I noticed that you are close by our Fearless Administrator,Bazooka. He is a Mustang dealer and will make you a good deal since you're a member here.

Works with sissy bar

Got my seat today, wasn't supposed to be here until Monday. Works just fine with the sissy bar. Took it for a ride and what a difference. Tried to post some picks but my down loads kept failing. Gonna wash the trike and try again later. Not too tech savvy so it could be me. Using the driver backrest off my 95 softail custom, it too has a mustang seat. Decided to keep the softail for a while so why spend the extra $200 for a backrest. Besides the old one goes better with the harley passenger backrest. My butt should be happy for many miles. Moma's too and that's the important one.
