Anybody ever been to Muleshoe,Tx.Intresting place they have a big statue of a mule there.(not much else) Back in the day there was a magazine named ROAD RIDER.Editor was ROGER HULL.Magazine was located in Cal.and everytime he came east he went through Muleshoe so when we went to the Grand Canyon in 76 just had to see it.

You're right, there's not much 'there' there . . . I'm thinkin' we went thru there en route to ABQ in August of '10 when we went to the west coast. Maybe we came back that way; I know we hit Lubbock at 9:30PM and pulled into our driveway in Killeen at 5:30AM. (Twenty hours of trikin that day . . . 980 miles.) Might check it out more closely the next time we go that way . . . got some TOI-TX members up there close to Amarillo . . .

Muleshoe is a nice place, lots of good folk... at least it was back in '76-'77.

Settled there for a while when I got out of the Army, worked at Crow Chevy as a mechanic. Loved the place & job, but tho the wife & I were raised in the Lubbock area, we just could not get used to the spring winds & dust after 6 years away. Moved to the 3rd coast, been here ever since.

I found this old thread searching for information about the biker register they used to keep in Muleshoe. I remember reading the article that Roger Hull wrote in 1972 in Road Rider. In 1973 I took a job in Puerto Rico and was able to take my bike, a 1972 BMW R75/5, with me. I rode it to New Orleans to store it with my Mom until I could make shipping arrangements. On the way down from Pleasant Grove Ut I planned my route thru Muleshoe so I could meet the Police Chief who at the time was also a rider and who would treat any rider coming through to coffee and donuts. There weren't a lot of us in those days. Spent a couple of hours visiting with him and talking bikes and trips and things, signed his register. Wonder what he is doing these days and if they kept track of that roster. Like me he would be late sixties or maybe early 70's. Could still be riding. I don't remember his name. Lucky thanks for bringing up that story,I haven't thought about it in years.

Went through Muleshoe on the way to Clovis, New Mexico. We had 8" of snow in the area and people had a hard time going through there, no plows so traffic was so slow, you could walk faster.
Don't speed through there..they sit by the silos just waiting.

"Don't speed through there..they sit by the silos just waiting."

That is very interesting because when I went through they were very biker friendly.

I haven't heard MULESHOE mentioned in a LONG time. I subscribed to ROAD RIDER forever. Roger Hull didn't go anywhere without going through Muleshoe. Back then could not wait to read his and BOB & PATTI CARPENTERS TWO UP article. Correspond with Patti some. GREAT folks. RIDE SAFE

That's why I resurrected your old thread Lucky. I too subscribed to them until they became Motorcycle Consumer News. Roger is still around,Bob was killed in an M/C accident quite awhile ago. Last I heard Patti was still at the head of MCM.

I am planning a ride to Big Bend in June and that's how I ran across your old thread. I may run the route up thru there on the way home to see if anyone knows anything about that old register.

I may be wrong but I think Roger passed away some years back. Natural causes. I would like to go there again. RIDE SAFE

ROGER HULL DIED FEB. 22 1995. He was a motorcycle touring pioneer for sure. Remember when he decided to visit all cities in the US named HULL?

I had not heard of his passing. I was at a GWRRA region meeting in the late 80's and got a chance to hear him speak and meet him briefly afterwards. Fascinating guy.

Speaking of Road Rider do you all remember Cliff Boswell who used to write a camping column for RR?
