They are very experienced riders.

I know the wide tires through up a lot more dust and water.
And being a responsible rider I would like to buy or better yet
make a pair of flaps.

Asked on another forum and no response ??

What are thoughts on a flap for the front wheel
seems to be a few cracked fenders with a rake.

I would like to see some one make a rear portion of the front fender with a extension built in. A longer fender in other words. I would think the Hannigan carries a rear mud flap as a option. I know road smith does.

Mud Flaps are a GOOD thing. I had a set on my '06 Motortrike but have not gotten around to making some for the '15 Roadsmith. You are 100% correct about the debris the tires toss up on any riders following you.

As for the front flap - be very careful. Many many GL1800 owners have cracked the back half of the front finder by adding the large fender extension or a stiff mud flap. I have always run just the 4" extension without any problem. For a short time I even added an additional 2" floppy rubber piece to the '01 two wheeler I had. It didn't seem to change the amount of dirt I got on the front cowl so I took it back off....

Many of the aftermarket fender extensions now come with a brace that strengthens the mounting points. I have no experience with them though. Maybe someone else will chime in...

I also wished someone would make an extended fender, I know Hannigan makes one for their 180 front end kit. I put a short extension on my 2012 Hanningan, just hope I don't get a cracked fender.

I'm not going to jinx myself by saying the 4" extension will not cause a crack. I have nearly 200,000 miles on a combination of three GL1800s with the 4" extended fender and all is well. The vast majority of those miles are at speeds over 70 mph and I'd imagine that is where the most stress is being developed. :xszpv::xszpv:

I've had 4 inch fender extensions on all of my Wings and never had an issue with causing a problem with my fenders.

I have 21K on my '13 Hannigan and have a fender on order. It came with the extension and on a ride on Sunday I discovered it was cracked on both sides. A friend I ride with had one on his '12 Roadsmith and it cracked also. I have no I dea why it cracked the fender but it's not going back on my trike especially since I see very little if any inprovement as far as protecting the front end of the trike. JMHO

I also have had not only a cracked rear portion of the GL1800 fender, but also that nice chrome thingie that covers the front brakes. I'd like to say it was because of the front fender extension, but in reality it was because "dumbass" the rider holding the handlebars saw a one liter empty soda (pop for those west of NY) bottle laying on the road and decided oh what fun it'll be to hit that bottle and send it flying off the road.
Well it got sucked right off the pavement and followed the tire right up to the forks breaking all the plastic as it went. That hurt my wallet so much I wisely vowed never to purposely hit anything else I might see laying on the road.:AGGHH: Oh and by the way....the fender extender didn't break so I put it back on the new fender.
