Motortrike information

I have a 2010 wing with Motortrike IRS. I was told by the factory that my driveshaft has two zerks, one for each u-joint. They said that the drive shaft needed to be removed in order to grease the front u-joint.

I took it into the dealer that installed the Motortrike conversion. They told me they could do it without removing driveshaft. Guess what, they did it.

I inspected the front u-joint myself and am satisfied that it was lubricated correctly.

Just thought I would pass this along in hopes that it might help someone else.

I have trouble getting at the front U-joint on my 2010 MT. conversion. If you have a flex hose on your grease gun you can just squeeze it in there. My grease gun does not have the flex hose so I have to drop the drive shaft to do the grease job. That is why when I change my oil is when I grease my U-joint and lube the splines at the same time or at the most every other time if i am lazy. I change the oil every 5000 miles or about 2 times a year. Lube U-joint and grease splines 1 a year.

Help.....need more clarification regarding greasing the front u-joint on a GL1800 Adventure without pulling the driveshaft as some have said could be done. Can you really get a flex hose on the zerk? Isn't the problem that the fitting used on fixed or flex hoses is the same and is just too big? Also, as several have suggested, I bought a needle attachment that is apparently normally used for inserting grease around a seal (as in a ball joint) and had been told that you could just insert it into the end of the zerk past the small ball. Using a u-joint on the bench I could get the needle in past the small ball in the zerk but all the grease just comes back out....the needle does not seal the hole. Is there some other "needle" attachment? Please clarify how (if) you are doing this procedure without pulling the driveshaft.
Thanks,
Charlie

You may have to rotate the Driveshaft some to get a correct angle, but "YES", Both Joints can be greased while still in the Trike.....ThumbUp
