I think having only the 1 antenna on the tour pak looks lopsided...if any one has the extra antenna on theirs is it just a fake (not hooked up) or is it a functioning antenna?

My 11 Triglide had two antennas and my 17 Triglide had one antenna and there wasn’t any differences between radio performance which two verses one . As far as looks go that’s very subjective 😃📞

I think one is for the radio and one is for the CB. If you don't have a CB radio then removing that antenna will have no effect on the normal radio. I don't remember which is which at the moment.:xzqxz:

what I want to do is add an antenna on the right side to match the left because it looks lopsided to me with only the one radio antenna and I didn't know if they sold just a matching fake one or do I need to buy a fully functioning antenna and just not hook it up to anything. I have no CB.

Yep, one is for the Radio AM/FM and the other is for CB. Each one is marked at the bottom. At least mine are......

Back when I got my 2015 TG I decided I wanted two matching antennas for appearance purposes. Plus I liked the shorter antennas better than the long one that came on the TG. So I purchased both the shorty AM/FM and the shorty CB antennas even though I don't have a CB. I didn't notice any difference in AF/FM reception going to the shorty antenna from the longer antenna. Here are the links.

I have all three styles of am/fm antennas, the short stubby, the newer stock, and the older longer whip style. Between the short stubby and longer whip style I notice a little difference in FM radio range, depending on where I am.

I've always had both. I even bought the CB for my 2014TG. I also had all 3 different antennas. Never noticed any difference, but I seldom use the radio - I always made my own cassettes (remember those), then made my own CD's - now I doing my own SD cards. I can't afford to do another format. :). The CB was mostly for HOG chapter rides or vacation trips with friends.

Why don't you get the under fairing antenna and then you can eliminate all the rear antennas???

This is what I did. I don't use the radio, and don't have a CB, 2 matching shorty's, purely for symmetry.

Matching antenas

The second antenna mounting is for a CB radio. On some of the touring bike models the CB radio was included. It has been an option for those who did not have the CB and wanted one. The light bar on the rear of your tour pack is the same for all touring models including Tri Glides. You could purchase a second antenna just for looks if you desire. If so a replacement AM/FM would suffice.

Mine doesn't have the CB so the antenna on the bike is for the AM/FM...what I want to do is ADD another antenna on the right side to match the original even if it's just a non-working one just for the looks

See post #13 in this thread...........^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Got tired of the whip antennas in the face when we were accessing the tour pack. If you're like us, you get into the tour pack basically every time you get on & off, what with changing glasses, mama needing the hair brush, me needing a ball cap, etc. Had 2 whips but no CB. Bought the amplified antenna that goes inside the fairing. Works just as good for the little we use the radio, and the TG looks way better without the antennas. Also it's a lot easier to put the cover on if I need to.

Great minds think alike. That's what I said. Plus saves the cost of buying another antenna if you don't use the radio or CB.

I know what you mean = that's the reason I bought the saddlebags - so I don't have to go into the tour pack constantly. Especially if I have another bag strapped to the luggage rack. :)

either go with the internal antenna or get the custom dynamics shortee. The CD shortee is way less obvious, depending on where you live the internal might be good enough also.

I don't ever turn on the radio either. Is the antenna required to use the navigation? If not, I have no need for it.

I am wondering about the nav also, does it work with out an antenna? I never listen to the radio, so I would just take the antenna off and plastic cap the post.

It is supposed to, as the GPS is located on the amp mount above the radio inside the fairing. actually now that I think about it, I did try that when I was switching antennas - yes it does

I have two antennas due to having the CB module. It works well for convoys and checking road conditions ahead with the truckers.

Have you lately heard back from a trucker while on the highway????

For the last 3 years I have never heard back from a trucker on any highway from Chicago to Washington DC, Knoxville, Tn. or Buffalo, NY. - NOTHING. I've asked many people about this and most say they are using cell phones = WTF how can that be? Do all truckers have every other trucker's cell number?? Another said they're using single side band.

Does anyone else receive trucker chatter on the CB??? Or know the reason there isn't any???

I wonder about truckers and CB. Just got back from a road trip and I swear every semi driver was on his phone. I don't see the microphones hanging in the cabs much any more either. Or those wild antennas on their mirrors.

Truckers & CB’s

CB’s have mostly gone by the wayside for truckers on the highway. It’s a tool that most of them only use in the event of traffic and accidents. Most would rather talk to friends and family while on the road. There is so much trash on the CB anymore that we keep our squelch turned up and the volume turned down most of the time. I use my bike CB only when riding with a group or traffic listening for information regarding the issue at hand.
