"Mark this forum read" problem

Why is it that even after marking this forum "read", the next time I "Go to first new post" it shows a bunch of supposedly new posts but has reverted back to where I left it days before. I have to forward through a bunch of already read posts to the end. Even then, sometimes there are no new posts.

Just don't "mark it read"...and reload the "New Posts" button
