Many thanks to FedEx for a totally frustrating experience!

I ordered an Oberon clutch lever from Clarendon Specialty Fasteners, it arrived by FedEx looking like this: OK, these things happen, no big deal...just go thru the damage claim crap and get another one....(or so I thought).

Took these photos along with a couple others, made out all the paperwork and faxed the whole package to FedEx.

Good to their word I rec'd notice within 7 days that they had arrived at a decision and would send me a letter within 5 - 7 days telling me what that decision was. That seemed like an overly complicated way of telling me that my claim was approved and a check was in the mail, so I went into my FedEx account to see what was going on. There was no info clearing the situation up so I made a call...FedEx told me that I would have to call the shipper (Clarendon), have them call FedEx to obtain the resolution info on MY claim and then Clarendon could pass it on to me.

Now my spider senses are in full on paranoid mode as it's becoming apparent that my damage claim was denied. Which did in fact turn out to be the case! It seemed cut & dried to me, lots of photos, all the paperwork correct, and yet they denied it....THEN wouldn't tell me why!

Well, the Clarendon rep offered to install a new blade portion on the lever saving us both a lot of trouble & frustration (at no cost to me) which I thought was pretty nice as they obviously didn't have any obligation in this.

It will turn out ok, the lever is on the way back to Clarendon for re-hab therapy....but what a screwed up deal!

My opinion on the Oberon lever - I got this lever to help with arthritic hand issues and (even bent like it was) it worked perfectly. A bit pricey (which is why I only got the clutch side) but a well designed, quality product none the less.

My opinion on FedEx....not quite so high!

We had a recent discussion on the USPS taking 10 days to deliver my oil sample 250 miles away.

It sounds like your having quality issues with FEDEX.

I do have 1 question dannymax, did you have to pay extra for a custom lever like that, or is that level of service at no extra charge.

I read your posts about the 'slow walk' to deliver the oil sample, makes you wonder doesn't it!

No, the custom bending was a freebie....sort of...

Couldn't help but wonder if I'd ordered the brake side lever if the bends would have matched, I'm betting not!

I thought the claim was a shoe in, decent photos, paperwork correct....but there must have been something I didn't do....was I s'posed to point out the damage to the driver before he left? Open the package in front of him? I didn't do that, actually he was only here 3 or 4 seconds at the most.

I have a front door video camera, 90% of the time the drivers for all the delivery companies just pitch the pakage or drop tit at the door. Forget knocking or ring the door bell. :gah:All the carriers know their drivers do it and will stall hanvling the claims.

You have to admit they've sure figured out where to put the weak point so if your bike falls over id won't break the lever completely off, giving you plenty of lever left to use. Same for OEM levers. Had to replace mine but was able to still use it due to their clever weak point design.:clapping::clapping::clapping:

I noticed that, even got little bevels on the edge to absolutely guarantee where & about how much it will bend and still have an operable clutch to get home with.

Wonder if FedEx billed Oberon for field stress testing services? :xzqxz:

I'm not too happy with FedEx either. They just shipped me a new BushTec trailer that was custom built for our customer and it arrived smashed on Friday. They had sat a heavy crate on top of our crate and it crushed it, severely damaging the trailer. We refused the shipment and it is being sent back to Bushtec for their inspection and claims charges.

Wow! I have a feeling not checking out & refusing the shipment might have given them grounds to deny my claim. Might have to 'go to the mattresses' with them to get it turned around...

I honestly don't see how FedX stays in business. They destroy or lose more stuff around here. We told them to never ever leave anything at our gate and gave them a code to get in. The refused to do it and we told them again. Finally one day we were expecting some very expensive electronics and waited and waited. Checked for update and it said "Left at door". Hell they did. They left it at the gate. Went out to the gate and nothing. Just like we warned them, things at gate get stolen. Someone had to pay for replacements. We were just out the frustration and time. But guess what, they started using the gate code after that. IDIOTS!!!

I was workin on my barn roof the other day. I see the Fed Ex truck come in the driveway. But I don't see him come to the door. So I get down to see if maybe he needs a hand. No he couldn't find a walkway to the back door. Well I just planted grass so he's right. I did mention to him that there was a door right where he parked and also a front door.

dannymax, I must be missing something here. I went to
Clarendon Specialty Fasteners

website & I don't see anything about clutch levers.

What am I doing wrong?

FedEx denied my claim because 'a review of the photos showed the item was not packaged properly for shipment'!

Anyone on here ever bought one of these Oberon levers knows you could throw the package out an airplane without damaging the lever! Anyhow....several more photos....a detailed description of the packing & cushioning....a fair amount of Irish sarcasm....and we'll what happens.

It's a battle of attrition at this point! :D

Mine came in Malling envelop in a box, and the lever was in form fitting styrofoam..

And if i wasn't in such a hurry to dump my 17 T/G i would have given the lever away for free...

Packaged properly according to who?

That sounds pretty lame on Fed Ex, guess they are on the do not use list now

Good Luck to you, I hope you get your pound of flesh from them;)

I wish I could control who gets used. I just had to send an item back that came by FedX. But guess who that company uses for returns, UPS. Apparently it's cheaper for them to use FedX to ship out but UPS has more pick-up places. Seems screwy not to use the same one but there it is. But I hate FedX to start with would rather they use UPS but nope. It's FedX or nothing with this company.

Good luck with them. I am a UPS user, but lately have been forced to use USPS to take advantage of free shipping.

I have a little home business rebuilding VMax carburetors, use USPS exclusively and have shipped over 250 sets of carbs (plus countless small parts) all over the world without issue. I like UPS also but they aren't conveniently located for me.

Well, the last chapter on the FedEx saga has been written, not unexpectedly, my claim was denied again. I did remind FedEx their money grubbing claim denying attitude is going to hurt their business....I'm sure they'll take that to heart and revise their business model!

FedEx used to be the white glove shipper but not any more.

The bright side to the whole deal is I got the new Oberon lever from Clarendon which looks & works perfectly! :clapping:
