Lug nuts replacement

I'm having my stock rims powdercoated, I don't want to use chrome lugs with a black wheel. I see the triglide lugs are 1/2 inch. I've checked eBay and there are many to choose from. I've noticed a couple say not for aluminum rims. I've found a couple that look just like the stock lugs. They are 1/2 inch but they list then as 1/2-20, not sure what other numbers I need. Several also list the Conical at 60 degrees, not sure what I need. Anyone bought replacements before. Last thing I want is to lose a wheel going down the road.

If you bring one of the lug nuts to Lowe's (or other hardware) they would have some threaded rods to tell you exact thread size. Then maybe find other lugs at some auto parts store.

The 1/2-20 is they are 1/2 inch and 20 is the thread size. I believe the Conical at 60 degrees is the taper on the bottom of the lug nut.
You could try taking one of your lug nuts to an auto parts store and they may be able to match what you need or just powder coat the ones you have.

The 1/2" is the diameter and the 20 refers to the "threads per inch". Diameter and TPI are defined by the UNC and UNF (unified national course & unified national fine) standards for threads up to 1". Not sure how the 60 deg thing works w/o doing a search.

why not powder coat or paint the lug nuts you have now?

I could do that but the lugs aren't in the best shape. Some rusty spots and nicks, I'm guessing from the lug wrench, figured it might be easier to get new ones.. if I have too I'll paint these, heard powder coated lugs can be chipped though

i guess either way they would chip..what about black chrome lug nuts..Buy the log nuts and send they to a chromer that will make them black..there is black chrome out there now..

Black chrome would work,I just want to make sure I get the right lug size, ebay had a few black chrome or anodized, just don't wanna a wheel falling off if the lug isn't right.

If you take one of the lugs to a local REPUTABLE wheel store, they can order you some also. Colored lug nuts are becoming very popular here lately. A buddy ordered a set of black lugs to match the blacked out wheels on his Vette.

Not to mention, a good wheel shop would give you the proper recommendation for the type of lug nuts you should use also and eliminate any guesswork.

If you finally come up with the size you need, a very simple check you can do to see if your lug nuts are 60* or not is take 2 nuts & place them together at the flats. The resulting angle of the flats coming together is 60*. Put one of your lug nuts into that angle & if they are 60* they will match on the bevel at the end.(conical)
Just another note, when you sharpen drill bits they should be a 59* angle so you can use the same gauge for that also.
