Loud CLANKING noise when shifting gears up or down

Got the same thing with my 14 Tri. Tried a number of things to cure it with no success so far. I have been told it is the nature of the "newer" 6 speed tranny. I was also told to turn the radio up as that helps!

Is there a chance your at shifting very low RPM'S...
You are hauling more weight than a two wheeler so you have to get the RPM's up a little. .

2014 TriGlide (19K miles) I use Bel-Ray 85w-140 hypoid gear oil in the tranny. Get some real gear oil of your choice into the tranny. It makes a huge difference.
If you are running motor oil in the transmission ... that is the problem.

I found the same thing with just two wheels as well.ThumbUp

Mine clanks going into gear unless I wait about 10 seconds to shift after pulling the clutch. I instinctively try to sync RPM with the gear I'm going into to avoid clank when shifting. It's a learned thing.

Check linkage...

I noticed the same noise on my FW but not on my 09 Road King, with the 6-spd. I ended up fixing the problem after having to reconnect the front shift linkage. Completely came loose on the highway but didn't realize it until I tried to downshift while taking an exit ramp. Shift rod was resting on the case and heel/toe shifter was freely rocking back and forth. Assemblers did not push the shaft all the way in before tightening the bolt that secures the splined shaft to the front linkage. The noise I had been putting up with was actually an indication the shift linkage was not aligned and the linkage came loose because no locktite during assembly. Comedy of errors, so to speak. I re-attached the linkage, correctly, and it shifts very smooth and quiet now.
