I'm looking for anyone wanting to hook-up to ride to the Texas Trike Reunion in Kerrville held April 23-25. I'll be going from just South of Gadsden, Al on Al-77 to I-20 West through Birmingham and on to Tyler, TX then South through Waco turning West just North of Austin (to miss heavy traffic) to Fredericksburg and then South on TX-16 to Kerrville.

I'm planning on leaving home on Tuesday April 21 and arriving in Kerrville on Wednesday April 22. I am considering an overnight stay in Corsicana, TX leaving about a 5 hour ride to Kerrville Wednesday morning but I'm flexible. The only fixed thing for me is arriving in Kerrville on Wednesday for my motel reservation.

If anyone is interested in having company riding to Kerrville P.M. me or call at 256-581-2069 and we can work out travel plans. Ride Safe. Doc ThumbUp

P.S. What you ride doesn't matter as I posted
here only because I ride a Honda Trike.

I would avoid IH 35 at all cost. It is a major trunk route and construction for miles and miles. It is a white knuckle ride in a car. I have never seen any kind of bike on the road, they all know better and would rather live. Go around completely.

jredman,

Thanks, I appreciate the advice as I have not traveled that way before. Ride Safe. Doc ThumbUp

Route update:

yes I35 is a real pita. Made a mistake several years ago and rode it from I40/I35 to Dallas. Big mistake.
When we stopped om Dallas my cousin and we removed about 5 lbs of rocks from both bikes.

Sure wish things would work out for me to ride with you through.

Not sure what software you are using if any. But I use Honda trip planner and and can avoid highways. I have future trips already in the GPS This is the route I would take from Tyler. More Scenic as well. You are going to hit 3 Sisters while so close in Kerrville, correct?

jredman,

I just found this after sending you the PM outlining the route that I plan to take with your blessing and it is almost the same as the one outlined above with the exception of the cut-off from 84 down to 281. I can't make out the cut-off road but think I probably should continue on to the junction of 84 & 281 to be safe as I'm not sightseeing on the way in (just want to get there and rest up before the reunion actually starts). I want to thank you for your kind assistance and hope you do attend the reunion. Ride Safe. Doc ThumbUp

Outside of Gatesville it is 116, 116 to 550, 550 will take you into Lampassas, TX. Go to trip planner.honda.com. This is awesome and will route you anywhere you want to go and avoid highways. Or you could take 84 all the way to Evant, TX and pick up 281. I was just in Evant. Old West town, looks like you would see horses tied to the stores.

You have to sight see, that is what riding is all about, the journey.

Doc,

If you're looking to miss traffic areas.

Take 155 out of Tyler to Palestine, pickup 79 headed West. Before you get to Round Rock take Hwy 130 up to Georgetown, take Hwy 29 West out of Georgetown. This turn up will avoid most of the traffic and congestion of Austin and Round Rock. Unfortunately Round Rock has just become just as bad as Austin. Take 29 to Burnet and turn South on 281 to 290 then West to Fredericksburg and pick up 16.

Look forward to seeing you Kerrville.

Ride Safe.

jbourg,

I had planned to take 31 out of Tyler to Corsicana (spend the night there) and continue on 31 to 84 West to 281 South to 290 West to Fredericksburg then South on TX-16. How does that route sound to you? I appreciate your suggestion. How does road condition compare on these two routes? Thanks! I too look forward to meeting you. Ride Safe. Doc ThumbUp

Doc,

The roads on your route are good (at least the last time I rode them). In Corsicana stop at the Russell Stovers chocolate factory. I rode the route I sent you in late November and there was no construction.
