OK, its my '99 GL1500SE trike and I can turn on the "Cruise Control" and the light comes on, I can 'set' the speed and the light comes on so one would think 'all systems go' right? Nope! Won't actually 'set' the speed, light says it is but no dice. I have checked the micro-switches on the bars and found nothing but I have not "tested" them, just a good look and listen for the 'click' and thats all good.

I have had some blown fuses here of late but not on the cruise control. Those problems have been repaired and the fuses are all good. Any ideas? Suggestions?

Appreciate any and all comments.

Had problem with my 90 and it was the speedometer cable, but I don't know if the 99 could be that or not . GOOD LUCK RIDE SAFE

Just cuz they click does not prove they work. I believe there is one in the foot brake too. Speedometer cable is hooked to it also. If that is the problem then your radio does not change vol with speed and your turn sig do not cancel.

Thanks John, Speedo works well, volume changes on the radio and the turn signals cancel so I'm going to rule out (for now) the cable. A little more testing of the switches and we'll see. Thanks again.

This helped me bunches when I was working on mine.

Yep, I had found this and have been using it. Great little resource isn't it. Thanks for the response Marc H.

Well, it appears the problem was simple to fix. Let me just say that "QD Electronic Cleaner" made by 'CRC' is your friend. After following the guide lines for testing as was posted in this thread previously I found two culprits. First was at the appropriate pin location I had no power. The instructions were very vague when it came to the "why" but after a little study I determined that the on/off switch located on the right side handlebar grip housing was a bit 'gooey' for lack of a better word. There was no definite click when pressed. So my trusty new friend, Mr. CRC, and I sprayed a little here and a little there and VOILA!! I had power. Don't ask me how, I don't know nor do I understand. Anyway, after that success we decided to test the rest of the switches. Guess what? The set/resume switch at the same location was also not working. Mr CRC to the rescue!!! Sprayed it and again, VOILA!! I did notice that the switches all work now more 'crisply' then they once did. Perhaps riding the trike every day and every day I had gotten used to them feeling mushy and just didn't realize what was happening.

Anyway, the good news is that my dreaded cruise control repair is now mere history and I am no worse for wear. Success! And its going to be a great weekend to ride!! See ya out there.
