When I go over a "nasty" piece of road or manhole cover, I get this "klunk" noise usually on the right rear side of the trike. It is an 05 Lehman Monarch II. It has never done it before, I guess old age. Have never done any adjustments to the 1 up, 2 up. Since I don't have the manual for the trike any ideas on what I can do?

I'd start looking for the simplest to fix first. Broken shock, worn bushings, worn U-joint, worn out wheel bearings, etc. Then if all the easy stuff checks out it gets more difficult. It could be a broken bracket holding the body on the trike frame (I had one). Unfortunately, this requires a bit of work removing the body to find and fix. Good luck..... Jim

Start with a static bounce test of the rear of the trike

Push down hard on the rear 1 side at a time, do you hear anything?

If you do it is time to jack it up and check further

What you describe sounds like a shock problem IMO

Just an idea take everything out of the trunk and go hit that same spot in the road.

Thanks Woody, nothing in the trunk and hatch except my hat. It is okay with normal bumps just the ones that jar your molars. :D

A few things you can check out with your mileage. See if the main Lehman shock is leaking oil or seeping this is an indication of a blown shock. While youre there check out your spring setting. Jim and Al Timm told me to keep it on the middle setting unless my passenger was a good sized person or I was towing a trailer. You can also check the stop blocks or bump stops for the swingarm.

I hope this isnt an issue you have but take a flashlight and check the subframe under the body from underneath. Mine was making a noise about 10 years ago and I found the subframe and swingarm cracked in 5 places.

But I would check out the bumpstops 1st.

Looking for Someone in Maryland Area

Need to get someone who is a Triker that would be willing to take a look at the "Klunk" in my 05 Lehman Monarch II. I have lost my WVa good guy Jim "Lee H. Mann". who did all the work on my Trike. Not looking for a freebee. I know how the Honda Dealerships are not really willing to work on Trikes unless they sell them and they are few and far between. Ten years ago, I would have tackled the problem but those days are long gone. Any input appreciated. Thanks to all who have responded.
