Yesterday I was cleaning the Freewheeler and I noted that one of the JES fork mounted wind deflectors appeared to be loose. On inspection the mounting bolts weren't loose, it was cracked almost all the way through where the cutout is for the turn signal. It appears to be a cyclical stress fracture as there are no dings or scratches on the deflector as if something like a big rock or road debris may have hit it and started the crack. The cut out area for the turn signal is the thinnest area and would be the most likely area for a stress crack to start. It is so close to having cracked all the way across that I am sure if I had ridden the trike it would have cracked all the way and fallen off. I installed these in January of 2016 so probably won't get any consideration from JES but I am going to let them know what happened as I would consider it to be a design flaw.

If you have these wind deflectors on your Freewheeler you should check them for possible cracks in the turn signal cut out area.

I was going to post a picture but for some reason I can't get my cell phone to send the picture to my computer. If I can get the picture to upload I will post it.

JES 1.jpg

Finally got a picture to upload. Not the best but the crack is visible. Sent an e-mail to JES but it failed, said e-mail address was now inactive. Called JES phone number and got voicemail. Will try again later.

Good luck. I would give them a shot at making it right also. Keep us posted.

Will do. Have obtained new e-mail addy from JES and have sent them the photo. Will post update when I hear back from them. They have acknowledge the e-mail.

Update

Sent the photo to JES and received a phone call from the owner of the company within 30 minutes. He said he has sold hundreds of these and has not seen a failure yet. He is sending me a free replacement and in fact I have already received a shipping notice this afternoon. I have had these on the trike for 2 years and certainly did not expect a free replacement.

Outstanding customer service!

I took the left wind deflector off and checked it and did not see any evidence of cracking so hopefully this was a fluke. In any event JES certainly went above and beyond to take care of the customer.
