Well, after the "interesting" ride I had from the dealership home when I picked up my Trike a few days ago, things have gotten better. :pepper: I have drive close to 200 miles now and am loving the Trike! I had my doubts that first ride home, but it is so nice now that I am getting comfortable with riding the Trike. My wife and I went for a 50 mile ride today and we both had big smiles when I made a U-turn with ease. In fact it was so easy I made two more. Ha. U-turns use to jack up my blood pressure whenever I had to make one when riding two up. With the Trike it is soon simple. I also lowered the rear tire pressure from 29 lbs to 26 lbs and that made a lot of difference in the ride.

Anyway, love it, love it, love it. Grin Grin Grin.

The majority here run 41 lbs in the front. 20/24 in the rear.

You are absolutely correct! I meant to say I lowered the rear tires to 26 lbs, not the front. I do run 40 lbs in the Avon Cobra tire on the front. Thanks for catching that error.
I corrected the first post. :0)

It had been over 30 years since i rode a bike when I got my trike earlier this year, and I still tried to put my feet down when I came to a stop!! I guess some habits stay with you. I have no problems now, and I wish I had bought a trike a lot sooner.

trike

hay bcop if you like you new trike now, just give it a few 100 mils. it will only get better and better, you will wonder why you did not do it earlier. ride safe and have fun.

Sounds like my first one. On the way I thought I had made the worst mistake of my life. That feeling went away real quick tho. May want to try some figure 8's. I run 41/22 air pressure. RIDE SAFE

I have noticed that a lot of riders keep their rear tires aired up to 22 - 24 lbs. I lowered mine to 26 lbs and it does ride better than the 30 lbs the dealership placed in it when I picked it up. I was wondering if I should keep the 26 lbs in the rear tires or lower it a bit more. I do ride 2 up most of the time and will pull a trailer a couple of times a year. I don't want to get it so low that it is unsafe but if 22-24 lbs will work 2 up, maybe I will give it a try.

Thanks.

Lower it and it will ride even better and it will not be unsafe. The vast majority of owners here on the forum have lowered theirs and have ridden this ways for years with no problems. Experiment between 22 and 24 and see what feels best to you.

If you took a tire that had exactly 22 psi in it and had all of us on the board check the pressure I'm sure it would vary from about 20 psi to 24 psi. What I'm saying is that gauges we all use are not calibrated and can vary quite a lot. Set yours between 20 and 25 and see how it feels. Of course just getting a much smoother ride could be because you are under inflated. I know a guy that recommends marking chalk lines across the tread and riding it around the block or so and see how it wears off. That should show if you are over/under or just right, but I've never tried it. If you can adjust the air to get an even wear of the chalk across the tread then you would know what your gauge should read.......I just may try this myself.

The larger car sized tires on the rear of your trike will be fine on your trike at 20-24 psi. Just local, casual riding ..... etc .... I often set mine at 20 -22 psi cold (215/70-15 tires .... and I did so with the 245/60-15 that were on it when I got it) and if on the trike, we are "two up". If I'm loading up for a trip with the trunk packed and pulling the trailer, I go as high as 25 psi.

Yes, the difference can be felt in the seat some little bit, but at 25 psi the rear tires are up more, less deflection, less rolling resistance = more power free to pull with or better gas mileage maybe .... than with load and 20 psi.

Congrats of the new ride. I agree ..... some time doing figure 8s help you and any co-rider. My wife notices that on the trike she has to watch for hard turns where as on the bike, not so much effort on her part other than just looking over my shoulder. On the trike she has to "hold on" to support herself.
