Having my trike completely rebuild with an S&S crank with rods,pistons(10:5/1),boring jugs out to .005 over, Andrews 48cams,already have the 100+ C&C Ported & polished SE heads. Already had all this stuff in it but had the SE 259E cam. It had a really nice cam lope but I hear the 48 doesn't, which is a little disappointing. I guess the 48 pulls quite a bit more than the 259E. I was just wondering if anyone has the 48 cam & how do they like it. Thanks. Jim

I hope your builder isn't going to try and run that 48 at 10.5:1, the 29 degree intake close is way early for that kind of compression. You'll have a ccp in the 210+ range which will make tuning a bitch and pinging a way of life. If he's set on an andrews at that compression he should be using the 54 which has a 42 degree intake close which will build less pressure, the ccp should be right around 199.

Your builder has to keep in mind you travel with a trike not just bar hop and putt around town.

For one thing, what is the ccp stand for? Do you know the difference between the SE 259E which I have & the Andrews 54? Which is better in your opinion? Thanks Mike. Jim

Cold Cranking Pressure, I tossed out the 54 as a compromise over the 48. IMO I'd stick with the 259e if your cams are still in good shape and you want to save a few bucks, or a cam with close to the same spec's. You don't want to get the intake close much later with that compression or it'll be a PIA on hot days and with poor fuel. Another cam would be the Tman 590 or you could PM FLTR2008TRIKE to get contact info for a guy who is custom grinding cams and seems to know his stuff.

Mike, I'm going to pm you with my phone number. Give me a buzz if you can.
Lou called me today to tell me he was going to put the 48 cam in. I asked about the high compression. He said he was going to put 9-1 or 9:5 pistons in to lower the compression. I told him I thought my 259 was ok. He said with this set up I would get more torque throughout the range. My cam was getting pitted where they go into the cam plate. I told him I just want something dependable, not use oil and runs good cause it's nothing for us to take off for Cal.or Colorado or some place out west. So he is going to talk to a friend of his over the weekend to see what he thinks.I got on line yesterday to see what people thought about the 48. Most people like it,but that's on 2 wheelers. I don't know what to go with. Jim

Once I get settled in at work I'll give you a call. FWIW that is one direction to go, I do however have some reservations on how well those cams will perform with your ported heads since the cams were designed with a stock engine in mind.
