I didn't see anything on the Iron Butt site ( http://www.ironbutt.com/about/default.cfm?CFID=23648143&CFTOKEN=78346080 ) about trikes. I think Mike Kneebone's philosophy is that if you can do the ride then you deserve the recognition.

I did both of my rides several years ago on my '01 GL1800. Lots of folks think they were a wimpy rides but believe me it was plenty for this old man to do. I wonder if I'd be up to it on the trike.. Times (and my endurance) have changed... :xszpv:

An interesting concept, and probably some of us old guys could do SS1000 on the trike. In many ways three wheels is more comfortable than 2, so therein may be the problem for the IBA certificate folk. However, it is what it is, and I remain perfectly satisfied doing what I'm doing and sniffing flowers along the way.

We have done several big trips (close to and over 1000 miles in 24 - or fewer - hours), but never planned far enough ahead to get certified. Don't need another patch to prove endurance! The last one, last summer, was after the Rally in Maggie Valley, up to Pittsburgh via WVa, back thru Ohio and Kentucky. Spent the night above Louisville, then rode straight home to Texas, because we wanted to sleep at home. And we are considered 'elderly'. Ready to start again! C'mon, Rally! :wave4::D

After doing my SS1000 on 2 wheels I had my bike triked a few years later. I asked IBA if trikes are qualified to use on IBA rides. Their answer was "yes, if it was originally a motorcycle." So that would mean conversions were acceptible but not a trike built from such as a VW.

I have a certified SS1000 on my homemade V8 trike.........was no problem getting it. Michael sent me letter personally asking questions. Thought it was cool that I did it on a V8!
