Intake problems

I have very very little experience with a type 3....so limited here.

First a 72 model should be a 1600....if it is an American import model.

Second that intake and carb set up is considered to be the worst possible choice for a type 3 or 4.

They can and have been made to work on a type 1, by heating the intake and tuning the jetting and accel pump.

But as for you question... the only one I can remember seeing on a type 3....the carb was not in the exact center....meaning the manifold parts were different from right to left.

Check the tube manifolds for differences in length and offset.

edit....

Empi kits are not well known for how well they fit. It is not unusual to have to fix/modify the less expensive parts to get them to work.

Alright thanks for the advice I’ll just end up sending it back. And using what I already have.

I have been doing Research on the engine vin number And think it is actually a type 1 the vin starts W2 AE 172 the 72 made me think it was a 1972.

If I was the one choosing I would get dual 2 barrel weber style carbs.

In a way they are less difficult to tune. It is more direct....do this = that result.

But everything you do you must do 4 times.....equal to each barrel.

If you have early original type 3 dual solex carbs then keep them.

The type 3 fuel injection is fine on a stock engine also.

A type 3 engine case will have the serial number stamped on the case seam next to fuel pump mount flange.

A type 1 engine case will have the serial number stamped under the generator stand flange.

an AE172xxxx number type 1 case would have began life as a 1970 single port.

How about some pics of what you are working with.

Any other mods?

Cam?

Heads?

What is the actual displacement?
