Insurance on GW Trikes...

Shopping around for some quotes - due in February.

How are you guys answering 'modified frame' or 'alternate frame' on various companies?

Most companies won't give you a quote if either of these are checked.

Insuranc on GW trikes

My agent did not ask about frame mods. But the whole trike kit is listed as an acccessary.

I have Progressive. They consider the trike kit as an accessory. Because of the cost they wanted copies of the receipts and photos for my file. I now carry an additional $15,000 accessory coverage.

Same with my 02 with CSC. Its thru Dairyland. Told them it was a trike. Basically insured as 02 GW with $15k in accessories.

Is American Family Insurance in your state? AmFam had no problem insuring my sister's GW with MotorTrike kit.

I had my 1800 insured through State Farm. When I got it trike, I contacted my agent and told him what I did. I actually rode it up there to show him. He put a photo of it on the agency's Facebook page. I was told that they just had to add a notation on my policy of the conversion and that the premium would stay the same. I have full coverage on it.

Liberty Mutual has my GW 1800 listed at a trike and there was no problem. The Liberty rates were 60% less than I had been paying Grange Mutual.<br />

What I have posted several times on similar threads, insurance requirements and regulations vary greatly from state to state. What applies, whether it is ratings, individual requirements, or whatever may well be, or not be different. These factors very much affect premiums.

Liberty Mutual wouldn't even insure my trike in Massachusetts. I switched to Geico and paid half of what Liberty Mutual was charging for a two wheeler, Geico listed the conversion as an accessory.

I guess each state is different. I just pulled my policy and is listed as; Conversion (Trike) Motor Trike. This is my first time to have Liberty and so far so good.

I had State Farm for many years. When I triked my Goldwing with the Roadsmith Kit they told me they could not insure me any more due to it be a modified motorcycle. They only insure Factory made trikes like the Tri Glide. I went with Rider, they have a list of the most common trike manufactors and it is very easy to do. Fully covered. If you have a trike not on the list they then cover your kit as a accessory. Hope this helps
