Insurance CANCELED because of being a Trike!

Geico on my 2004 Goldwing with a Roadsmith conversion. Called them when it was being converted and was told as long as it was done by a Roadsmith dealer or at the factory, they would cover it at no additional charge from what I was paying for two wheels. They also had the best rate for the coverage I have.

State Farm only cover factory made trikes ( Harley) . I have a Goldwing with a Roadsmith kit and they told me they would no longer cover it after I converted. I went with Ryder Insurance, fully covered my trike.

I had no problem here in Florida 2 months ago with State Farm. I insured up to value I paid, then some. Told him it was a trike. No questions asked. No problem. Will see if they back peddle IF I have to submit a claim. Rate was good. I forget the exact number, but I was surprised at how low for the amount I have covered.

My trike insurance is with Markle Ins., counted as an accessory of ($15K) to my 2wheeler bike, totaling $25K. For $330 a year, for here in Texas. So far, thank the Lord, I haven't had to use it, so don't know of any ramifications if it comes up to them paying.

From my research, some states require major medical and some don't. Major Med in Oklahoma is about $600 yr. and in Okla. you don't. If you have good medical coverage its not a must have. check your insurance coverage and see what and how much it would cover if your were in a accident, also check and see if a passenger is covered. Hate buying insurance as much as anyone. This should be a gas tax, you buy gas your covered!

Insurance update!

MARKEL insurance has just got my business for my Trike. No Hassle, no problems. they covered the bike and did 16K for the Hannigan conversion for $350 a year. I was paying $342 for the two wheeler. Shop around!:pepper:

I live in Warr acres, OK (OKC area) and am currently insured with Allstate. It is insured as a trike. I was previously insured with State Farm and the the trike kit was insured as an accessory. I changed companies not because of the trike designation but because my overall package was cheaper (house, car, trike). In fact, it cost a little more to insure the trike with Allstate but the overall package was cheaper.
