Today, I installed an “Iron Head Tri Glide Trunk Lock” system and below is a video link to my YouTube channel. (Warning: It is about 52 minutes long). But it is an overview on our OEM lock system and its downfalls. I know it’s been discussed before and some said that “They’ve never had a problem, and to keep it lubed and adjusted”…. But also MANY have also had issues (and reoccurring ones) and some have also stated of loosing gear from their trunks before noticing (or passersby notifying them of an open trunk).

I will tell you that this well throughout and designed system, and fits fantastic!
Personally, I only encountered a broken plastic lock bezel, which I was at fault during the disassembly of my new paint job. So I had the pleasure of seeing how that weak design operated last year. I never had a latch problem that many have had, but after hearing about this Iron Head Tri Glide Lock, I now know that will will not have to ever worry about it… EVER! (I intend to keep my Tri Glide for many years so I knew this was going to be a good modification and keep for many years!).

The company does mainly Facebook including a mail in order form with your payment. They do not have a website (yet) and they have a couple of YouTube videos themselves, but I wanted to show a hands on, first time install.

Again, it is a long video (wasn’t expecting it to be that long), but I wanted give and show as much information about this as possible, and to point out many features and options.

(I will cross post this thread onto the HD forum)

Awesome video . My licks been replaced twice, terrible cheap design by HD

Yes, very poor design. I do realize that if you adjust the latch outward a little, it would also take some of the spring tension off both the plastic bezel and the little lip that the latch catches…. But there is still only that small part of the lock that engages and trusting to hold it.
Yes, very bad design by HD. I’m glad I bought this unit and it’s very robust.

Thanks for the video, interesting to say the least, so far my trunk hasn't ever come open, I have it locked since day 1 and have only been in the trunk 2 times so far to add things.

All for now Trampas

Since I bought my TG this past September & coming from 2 wheels, as you & others on here know I did a complete makeover to it. When I took all the parts off to get ready for paint, I accidentally broke that plastic bezel that holds the lock and spring inside. So even though it was my fault, I questioned the reliability of the plastic bezel holding the pressure of the latch over time. (I never gave thought about the OEM truck latch at that time).

I purchased a new bezel (only $10.00) & was careful during reassembly with the new paint job. Then on here and other forums, I started hearing latch issues & many that the trunk came open while riding & loosing gear without knowing the truck came open.

That’s how I stumbled across the iron head trunk lock. Not because I love “gadgets” especially when it’s well made…. But I started looking more at the OEM latch mechanism and totally agree that it’s only a small percentage that trophies the door shut.

Many have never had issues, and lube the OEM assembly and just the adjustment…. That’s all fine & totally understandable that “don’t fix it if it’s not broke” is a great rule.

But my overthinking brain really loved this idea & researched more on it & even talked with Steve (Owner) a few times and knew that this was extremely well made & excellent execution of his components.

That’s the only reason why I ordered it and glad I did. Piece of mind knows it will NEVER come open on it own. I plan on keeping this trike for many, many years, so I wanted to also be proactive. On the way to my day job this morning, I had some products and parts I put in the trunk I had to bring with me that cost a substantial amount of money. Knowing what I know now, I’m glad I know it is secure.

Bottom line: it’s not a cheap lock mechanism, by any means…. But you also get excellent parts & workmanship on CNC machined parts by them, built in the USA 🇺🇸, and is totally worth the upgrade if one was in the market to get one.
