I'm a total newbie ... Is the Spyder too much to start with?

Hi everyone,

I am moving to warmer weather and decided to buy a trike. My eyes are on a Spyder, but I wonder if it might be too much to begin with. Besides the obvious added power, I like the semi-automatic transmission.

My question though is to know if the Spyder might be too much to handle for a TOTAL newbie or if it will do just fine.

Thank you in advance.

You’ll do fine…..Most Spyder riders are/were new riders to begin with…..!…If you can drive a car you can ride a Spyder…. especially with automatic transmission..

Actually the Spyder is a good choice. Semi-auto, assisted steering, don't have to worry about putting your feet down when stopped. As Bob said it's not hard. Just remember to steer to turn like a snow mobile or an ATV. Leaning will not do much but get you in trouble. Ride nice and easy until you get a few hundred miles in the saddle you will be just fine.

Thank you, Gorilla!

What I am currently negotiating with the dealer.

The Spyder is a great choice for you as a total newbie. You wont have any two wheel habits to unlearn as us old two wheelers did. The Spyder was mu second trike and I have loved it since the day I got it. I put tens od thousands of miles on motorcycles, but the Spyder is so much more comfortable. If I were younger, I could have put tens of thousands of miles on the Spyder. Though I have managed 79.000+ on mine so far. Enjoy your new ride, ask your dealer about a riding class. Not just for operation but to get some of the safety education that riding a motorcycle requires.

So, since I started this thread a few months ago, I have settled for a 2023 Sea-to-Sky and I absolutely love it. It was a bit anxious the few times, but I kept going and my confidence increased dramatically.

Now, it feels like I've been riding that baby forever (I am still being extra cautious though). Thanks everyone for all the good support.
