I have a 10yo KBC full face helmet, that needs to be replaced. Looking for a full face helmet that is Snell approved, and won't cost me an "arm and a leg" . Been looking at the modular helmets, but not sure how safe they are. Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi gerry, I have a Gmax modular helmet that I like it has many vent you can open or close, I have never had a full face helmet but I am told they are quieter then a modular, I have not been down and needed the helmet so not sure just how tough they are. what I like about the modular is you can lift the front and get a drank or talk to some one. the gmax has a shade that you can lower is needed. when I got mine it was $124 now I see them at $161. still a lot cheaper than most. you need to go look at a few and try them on.

I have a Shoie Neotec modular and I absolutely LOVE it. The modulars are much easier to get on and off, plus you can lift the chin bar at a light or even while on the open road to take a drink on those hot days. The best feature (for me) is it has a drop down sun visor which means I do not have to wear sun glasses or change visors between day and night riding, and the visor kind of keeps my ugly mug a mystery. The Shoie is not the cheapest version around, but you can get modulars with a drop down sun visor for as little as around $200.

I do not have any experience in 'knowing' how protective a modular is compared to a full face, and I hope I NEVER have to find out.

We used the Nolan N-103 until a few months ago and were very happy with them, however we tried the new Nolan N-104 and I have to say we are very impressed. Only made short trips with the N-104 so far but we are impressed. (just my 2 cents) might want to check them out.
