I worked with the Montagnards [Yard's] for a short while [66] I wonder how many survived after we left them to the NVA... It seems from WW2 on' We tend leave the ONLY people that helped us.
To swing in the breeze after we pull out....![]()
65/66--Chu Lai/Phu Bai--26th MEFIn country 66-67. Thanks Agent Orange
USN 66-70. First tour on USS Bennington CVS-20, aircraft carrier in 68. Decommissioned ship in 69. In 70 went to Cam Rhan Bay with Fleet Air Wing 10. Unit was stationed in Sangley Point in the PI. I rotated every 2 weeks from Sangley to CRB. VA put me in for hearing loss, Agent Orange, and Ischemic heart disease. They came back and said there was nothing in my records to show I was ever boots on ground in VN. Gone through a number of service officers and my Congressperson with no luck. The VA won't be happy til we're all gone and out of their hair.

Don, you and I were on the USS Bennington at the same time, I worked on the flight deck, as a Aircraft Handler (blue shirt), V-1 Div., then up to the air control tower as a radio talker until we Decommissioned the Bennington. Sorry to hear about your troubles.
Welcome Home Brother ThumbUp

Yes, we both probably sat next to each other chowing down one of Navy's finist meals at one time or another. I missed out on the decommissioning booked, I'll see if I can find one for my collection, thank for mentioning it.I was in OI Dvision, Radar Operator. I still have the decommissioning booklet somewhere. I asked for River Patrol Boats and they laughed at me and said "you're never getting out of Comnavairpack". LOL![]()
68/69 Central Highlands with the 188th Ordinance, Ammunition Specialist. It might sound strange, but I had more apprehension about coming home as I did leaving for Nam. Go figure, took me longer to adapt so the feelings were justified. The public was horribly confused, not me. I'm a new member, but feel like I'm in the midst of old friends.ThumbUp Live well, ride free and safe my brothers and sisters.
Everyone that was in Nam... Left a little there..... And took a little back...
When i came home [67] I was a stranger in the same neighborhood that i lived in all my life...
