How far in should the end be

The 97 Wing I have has a Motortrike kit on it. One of the PO had put straight pipes from the collector back and it was too loud for us. We are taking the advice of some of you and putting Harley pipes off an Elec Glide on it. My question is where should the end of the mufflers be when you look at the back of the kit? Right now they are sitting 5 inches in, from the rear, should it be even with the bumper or what.

I couldn't figure out how to do two pictures on one post so I did it this way. Here is a shot of it from the back. Yes it is sitting 5 inches in from the bumper.

Its really up to you Duck, as it varies from one manufacturer to another on how long their extensions are. Some are tucked up under the rear and others stick out a bit. Personally, I like to have the mufflers clear the rear end by a few inches for both looks and to help prevent what, if any soot that may accumulate on the body.

Yes it's the angle that makes it look that way. About it coming out a few inches is what I was thinking but I am new to trikes and have never noticed where they end. I guess I need to pull it out some and see how that looks.

The muffler has two brackets that line up with the frame where there is already a body bolt. If I put it on the first bracket hole it is 5 inches in and you can't see the second bracket. If I move it out (towards the back) to the next bracket, the end of the muffer is a little over an inch from the back. I like that look better but you can see the other bracket and that takes away from it. By using the brackets on the muffers, it will be a lot cleaner look. I am not sure I would be able to remove that bracket where it would not be seen. It has a nice weld on there. I could aways move it in a little and use an L brace

Now I know how to do more than one photo at a time.

If its gonna have that downward angle Id probably tuck it back in as much as possible...

I have it setting on a box just to see what it would look like. I was thinking of making it it as level as I could. By tucking it back, do you mean towards the front like the 5 inches or the back near the 1 inch?

I mean more up under, out of site, I guess that would be toward the front. It would look better and make it easier to load on a trailer without scrubbing. Without seeing the mounting options in person I dont know what would be the best mounting location though...

I have to say, I didn't think I would enjoy a trke as much as I do. I have only put about 2500 miles on this 1500 ( I have only had it about 2 months) and it just keeps getting better. I am already thinking of selling my C90 and this 1500 trike and going to a newer 1800 trike.

I hope it never has to be on one. Thanks for all your help and next time I am down that way I will stop in and meet you.

I have seen a lot of people who didn't put many miles on their bike but once they got it converted to a trike, they rode the wheels off of it. Its such a much more relaxing ride that you'll find yourself hopping on it a lot more often than you would a motorcycle. Its like casually tooling around in a little convertible...only better! Come see me anytime Duck.

My C-90 still "fits" me better than the Goldwing because of the leg problems I have but I am getting it setup. The one BIG plus is that now my wife will ride again with me.
