Honda Valkyrie Reverse Gear.

Info request -
I see in my service manual and talking to dealer that reverse gear is in the Honda GL1500 tranny. Valkyrie had reverse option for 1 year only.
Does anyone know what is needed to put outside selector on 2001 Valkyrie to use the reverse gear?

Hey Terry, I don't know if you have considered a drive line reverse......You might want to contact the guys at
JAXPORTS.com....they have some interesting stuff....

Terry, I could be wrong, but the only Valks I know of with reverse were the ones sold to the Japanese Market. Id say it would be near impossible to add the reverse setup without major modification (ie: machining) to the engine case. Youd also have to have the other components which would be tough to get ahold of.

Thanks for info Bazooka. You are correct in the fact that Hponda shipped valkyrie's with reverse in 1999 to Japan. The GL1500SE Goldwing has reverse also with a reverse selector. In my service manual it shows all the GL1500 transmissions have the reverse gear in the tranny.
I want to find out what is needed externally on the Valkyrie to shift into reverse? Is it possible to add on or buy the parts same as GL1500SE wing has?

The Honda reverse gear is run by the starter motor. No American Valk has a reverse. I also believe they made a Goldwing 1500 without the reverse, in the early 90s, and called it the Interstate model. A friend has a Valk and asked the local Honda dealer about adding a reverse. Was told yes, it was possible, but the work would exceed the value of the bike. In other words, its not plug and play.

I am looking into this very option, On the surface it appears doable but before
I stick my foot too far in, lets just say I am looking over the part lists between the two bikes to see how many have to be changed/added and what may have to be done to the valkyrie Vs the 1500 wing.

Yes, Valkyries sent to Japan had reverse while the US models did not.

Have a buddy down in Arkansas with a Valk Interstate trike. He says he has the "Flintsone Reverse Kit" installed.

Thanks everyone. It is not that important right now and I will keep looking and asking. In the mean time I will use the flintstone reverse also.
We always plan our docking so we can ride out!
