:xzqxz: I am learning some things about Goldwing's and how they hold their value. :AGGHH: I feel this should be a separate new topic.

I started out thinking I was going to buy a used bike for a donor. the lowest price I could find was $9500 for a 150,00 mile bike. the average was between $12,000 to 20,000. I am no better I still say JOY is worth $25,000 and so did the insurance company. trikes are going for $35,000 used.

next on advice from a friend I tried to buy an auction bike, a good idea. they sold a standard yellow 2008 in excellent condition for $22,000 that's how much a new one costs. I tried to buy half a GoldWing and it went for $2500, the average wrecked bike sale was upward of $4000. there is still another $1500 or more in fees and shipping.

now I'm buying parts it saves money on the whole bike sort of? this is a whole different kind of crazy. in a lot of cases used parts cost more than the factory Honda parts. I have saved some on used parts and saved some getting new parts. its just crazy. the parts you save on new are what you would think you would get way cheap used, like valve covers or engine guards or the headlight. these parts are cheaper new. got some good prices on used plastic though.

my point here is that Goldwing's hold their value no matter what. way worth fixing my baby. ThumbUp

Not in my neck of the woods!!!!!
I started watching E-bay and others back when I started looking for a trike.
I have seen many trikes advertised at ridiculous prices or reserves. Those end up w/0 bids or reserve not met!
If you are really interested in a trike, I am considering selling mine!

It will liven up. I have found that trikers are slower to respond to some things than other bike forums. I think it has to do with the overall age of the forum members. Lets face it, the average age here is older then a 2 wheel site.

Yep, you're right about that. Was pleased to read the original post abut the GW trikes holding their value, or any brand for that matter. But, since I own the GW/RS, I'm good with the report. However, when I'm ready to sell, I might have 150K miles, we'll see how that goes, since I only 65K on it now.

Yup, we have definitely dialed back the bike spending activity. I still work a few hours a week so I don't have to give it up completely. My bride is really understanding but she does like to eat occasionally so I have to yield to the necessities of life... :xzqxz: :xszpv::xszpv:

Seeing I paid $18,000 for my DFT 1997 Trike in 1999 and I can still ( been offered ) $14,000 for her 15 years latter. Wait where is the $37,000 Acura TL I bought in 2002. Got $13,000 for her in 2010. Bikes hold value. Sold my 1978 Honda K4 3 years ago for $800 . Seeing I paid $1,400 for it in 1979 not a loss.

Not many are in your shoes.
I rebuilt a 99 Valkrie I bought non running for $3500.
3 years ago.
Sunk at least another $3-4000 into it and 7 months of my labor.

No market at all 2 years ago for used bikes regardless of value this time last year.
I sold it for $4600 and was glad to get it.
I needed the money for the trike purchase.
This year may be totally different.
Peak of riding season and older parts are getting harder and harder to find.
For used parts.

When I started looking for a trike last year I was shocked by the prices. I wanted a Goldwing and didn't really care which kit it had because they all seem to be very good.
Used 5 year old trikes were selling in the very high 20's and I just couldn't really justify that. No warranty or anything.
I almost gave up looking when I found a new one online from a big Honda dealer.
I got it for just a little more than a used one.
I still paid a lot of money but I plan to have it for quite awhile.
I hope after a few years I will be able to get back a lot of the cash when I get ready to sell it.
Meanwhile, I love it and so does my wife!

Depends on where you were looking for one at! As I have stated several times-many are listed on E-bay at ridiculous prices and result in 0 bids or reserve not met

Even a new one has no warranty coverage on the bike part for any failure that is attributed to the conversion or a rake kit. That's if the manufacturer finds out the bike has been converted to a trike. Believe me when I say more manufacturers are checking this, especially when engine or tranny failures are involved!

Here is my experience. My first Goldwing I bought in 2002 was a 1984 Aspencade that had 60,000 miles and paid $4200. I kept it 5 years and sold it with 90,000 miles for $3500. Bought a 1992 trike in 2007 had 32000 miles and paid $12,800 for it. I sold it in 2011 with 65,000 miles for $15,500. Bought a 2002 trike and paid $21,500 with 35,000 miles on it. Hope I do as well on it when I sell it and move to a newer trike. Yep, I say they hold their value pretty well.

I am thinking more for a new one like people have mentioned not that much more for new one with warranty. I know it will be cutting into children's inheritance but hope they don't lose that much. Money not worth that much right now anyway.

Paid $24000 for my 2005 with a Lehman trike kit. The original owner had it trike with less than 20 miles on it. It had a little over 49000 miles on it when I bought it a year ago.
Seemed high at first, but I researched prices on Ebay, CL and at dealers. They all fell in about the same range.

Man I didn't need to hear that! Countin' down the days 'til I can retire. Reckon I'd better get my trike all done up before that day comes. Hope it lives as long as I do.

Always knew that the Goldwings retained their value pretty well. Good to know that it's still the norm. If health issues don't improve, mine might have to go soon or at least by next year,,, sad to say,,,.

I was lucky to get my 05 MotorTrike at an Auction Paid 18K Fully dressed out. Ive had her two years now, put on about 30K miles since I bought it. I dont plan to get rid of it any time soon. It has 72K miles on it now. Even have a matching homemade trailer to pull behind for longer trips.

Only problem was a brake light issue - had to have a relay installed to carry the the load demand.

I do all the routine maintenance myself

Wife loves riding on the back - she falls asleep on long rides LOL

I still miss two wheels sometines, next bike to share the garage will be another wing or a Victory in the next year or two
