Hitch install

I bought a used insta trike and put it on my 2009 Goldwing. I find that it is hard to get the hitch receptacle to take the male counterpart on the kit. I have to pull the bike down to slide it in. By watching the tow pac video, I am doing something wrong. Also, after all is hooked up, the tow pac seems to angle downward toward the front of the bike. Any suggestions?????????
